Critters and Couture for the Cure 2010 brought cancer survivors and their pets to the runway at Bloomingdale’s Chevy Chase. The event raised money to help uninsured or underinsured women in the DC area get the cancer treatment they need that’s not covered by the government. Emceed by Kate Michael the night honored doctors who have changed the lives of so many women in our area. It was a rare scene. UN Foundation President Timothy Wirth couldn’t recall a time when the Ben Franklin room at the State Department was transformed into a photo exhibition for anything. More monumental than the pictures : the cause. The world water crisis brought hollywood stars like Kenna, Lupe Fiasco together with leaders like Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero and Ambassador-at-Large for Global Partnerships Elizabeth Frawley Bagely. The photo exhibit featured the trek up Kilimanjaro in January led by Kenna which included climbers Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau and the UN Foundation’s Elizabeth Gore. It was called ”Summit on the Summit” and was meant to raise awareness about the 1 billion people around the world who don’t have access to clean water.
Watch my interview with Lupe Fiasco and Elizabeth Gore on the 9NEWS Morning Show… and climb the mountain with the crew this Sunday when their documentary airs on MTV.
Team of climbers included Emile Hirsch, Lupe Fiasco, Santigold, Isabel Lucas, Alexandra Cousteau, Kick Kennedy, Dr. Greg Allgood, Elizabeth Gore, Bernise Ang, Simon Isaacs, Michael Muller, Jimmy Chin, Jason Walsh, and Melissa Arnot. UN Foundation President Timothy Wirth and Maria Otero also pictured.

Ladies.. we’ve always been told we can do anything and why shouldn’t that include coachin’ on the gridiron. Natalie Randolph, former DC Divas (women indoor football league) player is the new head football caoch at Coolidge High School in DC. According to the Post interview the American Football Coaches Association has female members but there’s no record of one ever being named head coach.
This moment makes me so proud. Before my broadcast years my ultimate dream was to play college hoops for the Lady Longhorns. From my basketball shams in the
bedroom to my Dominique Wilkins terry cloth bath towel… everything in my life revolved around the hardwood. My teammates and me never aspired for more than college because the thought of a pro womens basketball league was wishful thinking.
Times.. they are a changing.
[Pictured: 1) Randolph as an assistant coach at Woodson. 2) Can you find me in this high school team picture? Hint: David Robinson was my idol.]

It’s the only Academy sanctioned viewing party in DC. Oscar Night DC 2010 the third year was more glamorous than ever. You felt amongst stars at the Oscar fitting National Museum of Women in the Arts. My friends fell in love with the champagne glasses lined with honey topped with a fresh sprig of lavender. My guess is that the gorge gowns made for more people watching then Oscar viewing. Sandra, Monique, K. Bigelow and more… a little acceptance speech for you. We thank you giving us a reason to get decked out, wear uncomfortable kicks, eat fine food and party on a Sunday night. The events proceeds is one of the biggest fundraisers for our area’s Red Cross.
