I am a lover of the races. I cried when I watched Seabiscuit. I balled when Barbaro took his last breath. I always honor the dress code no matter where the race is I attend. Last year I broke the rule… passed over Lilly Pulitzer for Betsey Johnson. This year I’m doing something ludicrous. I’m racing!
Kentucky Derby Marathon here I come.
I’ve hesitated announcing I’m running another 26.2 miles in a month because I was unsure if I was mentally there yet. It’s been more than a year since I did the Marine Corps Marathon and it’s taken time to believe it could be done again. I ran 13 miles this past weekend and it’s exactly what I needed. Half way there… and perfect place to be just a month before race day. Yep, BTW it’s April 24th.
This is the first time I’ll get close to the Kentucky Derby and I’m fine that it’s not all about the big hats. It’s cool that I can instead boast about my bigger feet as the swelling sets in. I went to buy new running shoes the other day and the guy said what size? I said “11″. He said “ELEVEN?”. I said yes. He said “ELEVEN?”. I said yes “Eeee-Leven”.
You should’ve seen his face when they actually fit.

Ladies.. we’ve always been told we can do anything and why shouldn’t that include coachin’ on the gridiron. Natalie Randolph, former DC Divas (women indoor football league) player is the new head football caoch at Coolidge High School in DC. According to the Post interview the American Football Coaches Association has female members but there’s no record of one ever being named head coach.
This moment makes me so proud. Before my broadcast years my ultimate dream was to play college hoops for the Lady Longhorns. From my basketball shams in the
bedroom to my Dominique Wilkins terry cloth bath towel… everything in my life revolved around the hardwood. My teammates and me never aspired for more than college because the thought of a pro womens basketball league was wishful thinking.
Times.. they are a changing.
[Pictured: 1) Randolph as an assistant coach at Woodson. 2) Can you find me in this high school team picture? Hint: David Robinson was my idol.]
