Sleeping Beauty Birthday Party

My daughter recently turned four and are you shocked it wasn’t a Frozen birthday party? She actually is in love with Aurora. She names her baby dolls Aurora.. she wants to dress like Aurora and she is a huge fan of the flying fairy godmothers. Adora also adores pink so it made for a fitting theme to celebrate her big 4.  Holidays have always been huge in my family and birthdays are right at the top. Another year of being here.. another year to look forward to. Birthdays… although some dread them.. think about it.. it’s really a beautiful thing. We should be thankful every time we get one 😉  As for this year’s party.. it was a true team effort. From painting the frames and making the centerpieces to deciding on desserts (glitter popcorn was a must!) Adora had a hand in almost everything. Here’s how we celebrated 4… Once upon a dream.. oh and they lived happily ever after.. I promise.

No Tears!

Bob’s first official Easter Bunny photo and no tears from him or big sister.
In fact.. I think she thinks people were there to take pictures with her.

Bob & Ava Meet their Extended News Family

Big thanks to dear friends Rebecca Cooper and Jill Collins for throwing the best Sip ‘n’ See at Carmine’s for Bob and Alison Starling’s little Ava. It was a wonderful way to get the babies together (which you can tell Ava is already crushin’) and show them off to all our great friends in the business! Why Disney on Ice is Skate Great!

I had a night of fabulous flashbacks. I remember going to Disney on Ice as a kid when I lived in Texas. Unexpectedly I had the feelings of excitement come back when I took Adora this week. It was really weird. I found myself watching the show (which was beautiful by the way) and getting lost in song. Once again I remember what it was like when I would listen to “When you wish upon a star” and the daydreaming would set in. I haven’t felt that way in a long time. So while this was a night for Adora see her favorite friends and princesses… I found it was also one that had me traveling back in time. It was real fun to see the magic working all over again. My favorite part was the It’s a Small World act and Pinocchio. The show captivated Adora and her best friend Reese. It kept their attention even under a sugar high of cotton candy! The show runs through Monday February 17th.. you can get tickets here. Watch a sneak peak of what you’ll see here.

Throwing a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Birthday Party

My daughter turned 3 and now that she’s in school and has girlfriends we decided to do an all girls party! A couple of my friends had done a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme and thought it was so cute. With the help of event planning mom Katie Wells with Petite Social we came up with a fun and fabulous party just for the little ladies! Activities included digging for diamonds, balloon art, face painting and even a visit from Santa Claus! Party notes are at the end of the post.

O Tiarabaum, O Tiarabaum

So this year I let my daughter do the tree. She is going through a Disney Princess phase right now so we had fun with it. I always have a real tree but decided to do a white one for the theme this year. We got cheap ornaments .. a mix of candy, birds, jewels at Big Lots and Walmart ($4 a box). I went to Michael’s and bought a Disney poster with plans to cut the faces out to put in wooden frames. We got the frames at Michael’s too (3.99) and painted them. The most pricey part was the actually Princess ornaments. I found them at CVS and Hallmark. They ranged from $7.99 to $19.99 a piece. Must admit.. they’re real cute!

Goodnight beach

At the beach #norulesapply! I let Adora go out in her nightie to see the water before bedtime. She didn’t want to say goodnight.

Let the baby weight battle begin

Considering the fact I was asked several times during pregnancy “Twins?” (and once triplets?) it goes without saying I enjoyed the “eating what I want” part of it all. I did have some pretty bad swelling which didn’t help. When I stepped on the scale before delivering the number put me at + 75 lbs. It’s been three weeks since that day and I’m starting to feel okay enough to exercise a little. I’ve also broken a personal record: 3 weeks without enjoying one of my favorite filet-o-fish. Because I’m breastfeeding I can’t really diet but what I have done is cut out the fast food and sugar intake. I’m trying not to freak out that I still have 50 pounds to go. They say it takes longer with the second baby. I think part of it is your SO tired from caring for the first. Feel free to share what worked for you!

Adora keeps me motivated

His first pictures

What amazes me most about newborns is how quickly just about everything changes in a matter of days. Anyone who is a parent will often say they forgot just how small their child once was. It’s the reason that despite being in pain, recovery, totally stressed and everything above I have forced myself to find 20 minutes in the first few days  to try to capture these details before they’re gone. I did it with Adora and now with Bob. You can see the soft hair that covers the baby’s body.. it’ll eventually disappear. This was after the first few days so Bob’s skin lightened up and started to flake. It still turns the bright pink he was the first day.. only when he cries. His lips, hands and feet actually turn blue if he gets cold. The wrinkles and folds are never ending. It’s amazing. Thanks to my friend Janette Kim for taking these photos.

She walked in halfway through our picture taking

Still coming to grips.. this changes everything

She didn’t say anything.. she just held him  gently and stared.

Great Fathers

Just a moment to give a shout out to some great men– my husband, dad, father in law and grandfather aka Great Papa! I love you and all that you do to keep our family grounded and strong. No love can compare. Happy Father’s Day.
