On Stage Now!

The Spring has welcomed some wonderful productions for the kiddos in our area. We just ventured to the charming Glen Echo Park to see Adora’s favorite story James and the Giant Peach. The production is showing through April 5th at Adventure Theater. More information here. It’s really a darling show with wonderful costumes and a lively cast. Adora loved meeting some of her favorite pests… Miss Spider.. Mr Centipede… the Grasshopper! I love the intimacy of this small theater. Note it’s about 75 minutes and there’s no intermission. Bathroom breaks are no problem.. just leave after a number and you’ll be escorted back in. Afterwards… it’s fun to let the kids play at the park’s playground.

This week we’re excited to see another fave.. Annie. The show is playing at the National Theatre.

Under the Rainbow

Our celebration of St. Patrick’s Day continues with some fun snacks and crafts. Create a rainbow anywhere with just tissue paper and streamers!  Then surprise the kids with cupcake sleeves filled with lucky charms. Let them have fun dyeing the milk green! This was my daughter’s favorite part. Update on the Leprechaun trap: no luck yet!

Making a Leprechaun Trap

It’s March 1st so the official countdown to one of my favorite holidays (not because it’s my birthday hee hee) is on! St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner which means we don’t have much time to catch that tricky Leprechaun. The kids had the best time making a trap. It’s so easy. All you need is a shoe box, a stick or pencil and some moss. Fill the box up and prop the top with the stick. You can bait the leprechaun with mini pots of gold, coins, skittles or me lucky charms! We know the little guys like rainbows too.. so we added one on the box. As we were making the trap Adora asked me if leprechauns have families. I told her of course they do. She then got sad and said.. well if we trap him then what about his family. I told her it’s like a fish.. we always throw it back :)

Princess Play Dates

There’s a little magical kingdom tucked away in the town of Herndon Virginia. It’s where my Adora and her fellow princesses from class met up up for the ultimate princess play date. Not only were they greeted by Rapunzel, Ariel and Cinderella… they got to make jewelry and paint nails. The girls loved the big closet filled with every gown you could imagine! The day was filled with dancing, games and getting carried away everywhere from Cinderella’s carriage to Ariel’s grotto!

Our Fairy Door

My daughter loves fairies. When thdoore weather is nice we actually have gone on walks looking for real fairies. Well if your little one is into the whimsy they’ll probably love the Lil Fairy Door. This is a door that can be put on your wall in a book shelf pretty much any where your fairy likes to get in and out of your house while you’re sleeping. You leave her notes.. and she writes you back. Adora sometimes leaves her gifts.. and she gets surprises sometimes too. The fairy is always watching.. kind of like Elf on the Shelf. She wants to make sure you’re being on your very best behavior. She also has teeny tiny fairy ears .. so when you scream it really hurts. Sometimes I have to remind the kids of that. We got our fairy door here but it took a while to come in because things were back-ordered. Since then I found some cheaper ones with adorable accessories on etsy.

fairy mailAdora looking for fairies in 2014

Do you ever scroll through your camera roll for pix and videos you took years ago? I was stuck waiting at a place with no wi-fi (heaven forbid!) so I decided to look at the oldest stuff stored on my phone. That's when I came across this video. It's of Adora 2 years ago on a quest to find real fairies. As time goes by…it's amazing how one can forget little moments, sweet frames of childhood captured on the fly.Thank goodness for that crummy wi-fi.

ICE!

ICE Frost

The Ice village and slide are back at Gaylord National at National Harbor. The kids got a kick out of the new Jack Frost theme. The slides are always a hit. Be sure to grab some hot chocolate after before hopping on the carousel or decorating gingerbread cookies. Here’s more information on the exhibit which will be open through Christmas. You can get photos with Santa too.      ICE Frost

On the day you turned 5

I woke up extra early so I could watch you sleep a few minutes longer before heading to work. I have to be honest… I’m a little sad I won’t be there the moment you open your big brown eyes and realize you are FINALLY five! You’ve been waiting for this moment your whole life…so you tell me. I just want to say how much I’ve grown to love you always asking what we’re doing tomorrow even when I doubt I’ll make it through that day. I’ll never forget that time in the car when I tried to hide tears from you but somehow you knew… and without a question offered to fill my bucket. And I will always remember when you threatened to run away this year and I found a picture of you and me holding hands in your getaway bag. The stories could go on but the bottomline is your heart is so big and ours are overflowing because of it. Happy birthday sweet angel. We love you.
