Sweet pandas

How ironic. The day we go to deliver panda cupcakes to the New Member of AOII at GMU… a baby panda is born at the National Zoo! What an awesome day it was. Our friends Sophie and Katherine at Georgetown Cupcake created the cutest cupcakes to celebrate our new girls. The panda is AOII’s mascot and made for a  really sweet treat. It was  great to see all the ladies on our old stomping grounds- the JC! I can’t even tell you how many hours I lost in that place.

My alum chum Elaina!

Congrats girls!

New pandas in town

If you read this site then you often see a lot of my college friends pop up in posts. I met many of them through AOII. My best memories from school were with these women. The great thing about the family– it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Fall recruitment at GMU just wrapped up and we’re welcoming 37 amazing young women to our chapter. Follow them on twitter @aoiigmu and join their facebook page.

Welcome Fall 2012

With awesome Alumni

Congrats Gamma Alpha on a strong rush. To all the ladies… remember NEVER FORGET!

Sisterly love

One of the best things about living close to where you went to school and college is that there’s always great ways to reconnect– in person. Seems like so many of us know people through social networking.. but rarely get to know them or see them anymore in real life.

My friend Kere is awesome when it comes to organizing brunches for our AOII sisters to catch up. We do them almost every season and there’s always different girls from different classes there. As we get ready for Fall we can’t help but reminisce about Fall Rush at Mason and how we sadly admit the thought of it still gives us a slight high.

The young women of Gamma Alpha are gearing up for their Fall Rush next week and some of us plan to return to help out. Good luck little pandas.. keep the legacy going and know that even after you graduate your girls will be here for you.

Fraternal fun

It’s been some years since I graduated college (don’t ask!) but I have always felt a strong connection to the great friends I made during that time. Some of my best friends were found through my fraternity Alpha Omicron Pi. Recently, the national magazine called wanting to know how my AOII connections have played a part in my life and career. The interview was featured in the Spring 2012 issue. It also feature two other sisters in broadcasting KHQA’s Chrissy Mueller and Courtney Cason of QVC. PS for those asking… AOII is a fraternity, not a sorority because that term didn’t exist when we were founded. So we call ourselves a “fraternity of women.”

Baby on way

No… not #2! Don’t even go there people. My friend Vi is having a baby very soon and we all got together to celebrate little Gavin. It was the cutest shower thrown by Vi’s sister Tien and friend Peachy in Stone Ridge Virginia. I loved the ‘Candy Bar’ and catching up with so many sorority sisters from George Mason. It’s so funny to see how far so many of us have come from frat house to housewife and mom.

Dresses, Cake, historic… a Winchester Wedding

The bride with her golden locks down was darling in her white chiffon gown and sweetheart neckline. The groom was handsome in white vest and tie. The bridesmaids looked like soft lilac blossoms in JCrew silk chiffon ‘Taryn’ dresses in sweet thistle. Following the ceremony the reception was held at the historic George Washington Hotel.  The cake flawless and mini wedding cupcakes in customized boxes at each table were sweet savoirs for guests unable to wait til the cutting ceremony. Congratulations to my sorority sister and sweet friend through the years… Kinsey and her love Phil

As the Newlyweds wished… we promise to Eat, Drink and Be Married!

Oh Snap! Wedding in West Point

Susan and Matt Longley in Bellevue, Virginia May 8, 2010

I had the pleasure of visiting West Point Virginia for the first time. It’s the home of 3 rivers, 2 bridges, 1 special place. It’s perhaps most special to my dear friend Susan Rabil who wed her soul mate Matthew Longley there.  It’s a quaint little town that thrives off a paper milled. On May 8th it played home to quite a party.  The reception was held at the gorgeous Bellevue estate in Bellevue Virginia. We sipped lemonade in mason jars and found our seat assignment planted in real grass.

SUPERSTITION: On the right is a pictuer of Susan digging for a bottle of Jack. They buried it months ago as a good luck charm so that it wouldn’t rain. Legend has it it is if it does you drink it… if it doesn’t you pass it on to the next person in the family who’s getting married. We got wind… no rain and despite a couple guests attempts to crack the bottle.. it stayed sealed tight.

Other highlights included Georgetown Cupcakes in leu of cake. I also loved getting together with all the AOIIS… three… Kristina, Kinsey and Alicia were in Susan’s wedding.  One of the biggest emotional moments… when Susan danced with her grandfather, Fred.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the tent.

Oh Snap! Sorority Girls Go WILDFIRE

Like the rose in the summertime a simple email invite to brunch blossomed into a beautiful thing: An AOII reunion. It’s been (cough cough) years since I graduated from George Mason and said farewell to some of my best friends from some of the best years of my life.

How nice it was to see the baby pandas (now with real babies of their own-or on the way) again. What better way to re-light the loyal spark than at WILDFIRE.

The gathering at Tysons Galleria restaurant was perfect for us A-O-Piggies. On the Club Brunch menu… eggs benedict, baked maple french toast, applewood smoked bacon, potatoes and fresh fruit! Executive Chef and frequent 9NEWS guest Steven Lukis got ‘major snaps’ from the sisters. Shout out to my dad (a former IIOA- our sorority’s sweetheart) for playing photographer for all of us again!

Birthday with Solid Friends & LiquidA

Thanks to sister-for-life Kristina Dorville who took it back old school to Arlington to celebrate my life. How old you ask? According to the picture on the right..I’d say about 5. (And while we’re on this picture why not add: cheeky Carissa is a supermodel- had to steal that one from Lauren P)

It’s a great example of a carefree night had by all at the Clarendon Grill in Arlington. Apparently, there was another girl named Katie celebrating her birthday too but my good friends made it clear to the band there was truly only ONE party in the house! All you had to do was look for the front row of friends who created the first ever ‘hit line’. Yep excessive ‘fist pumping’ was in the air and our energetic ring leader was none other than good friend Katherine Kennedy. If our performance didn’t win you over chances are we had you at “Want a mini red velvet cupcake from Bakeshop?”  Justin the owner of the new Arlington joint was so sweet to send dozens of the birthday bites our way.  [Pictured above: Carissa, Jesse, Dr. Alex, Angie & Lauren P. Don’t forget the liquid that kept us rockin’… LiquidA that is!

DC's New High Society Sorority?

I say sorority because when it comes to women who value fashion, fun and filling the dire holes in our community it takes me back to my college days as an AOII.   But winning Greek week, beer pong olympics or taking $299 all inclusive spring break trips to the Bahamas aren’t part of these girls’ agenda.

They call themselves “The Audrey Bouviers“. Named after hollywood royalty Audrey Hepburn and fashion icon Jackie O (maiden name was Bouvier) this new group of women is all about style, sophistication and serving the community.

Founder Sanam Toossi tells OMG this select group of professional women will commit to 4 big community projects a year that include everything from gardening to serving food. If you’ve got the grace it takes and the heart to give… vist theaudreybouviers.org for more information.

Watch Monday:  OMG Report  on WUSA-TV (CBS) at 5:54AM ET for coverage of The Audrey Bouvier’s kick-off party!
