Finally it’s here… DC’s Hottest 5 will take to the small screen in our half hour primetime special airing on WUSA Channel 9 from 9-930. There’s an great excuse to pop by Ben’s Chili Bowl tomorrow– there’s the good food of course but also a chance to do something good for your heart.
WUSA9 anchor and heart attack survivor Bruce Johnson will be at the U street restaurant from 630 to 830 PM signing copies of his book “Heart to Heart“. The book tells his story along with that of 11 diverse people who survived sudden heart attacks. Oh, and don’t worry there’s no conflict here, Ben’s serves up a mean turkey half smoke with vege chili.

I don’t think I’ll ever volunteer to judge green chili again. Not because it doesn’t taste good (it tastes great) but perhaps because of how it looks… 22 times over. I’ll stick with red. Another thing I don’t get is why contestants insist on naming their prized bowl after things that trigger gag reflex. It appears many of them try to blow up just how hot their stuff is but in all reality don’t they know chili judges are told to pick something balanced with the right spice. I can’t post pics of many of the tents at the DC101 Chili Cook-Off but I’ve shared a couple below. Despite the names RFK smelled amazing!
