Sweet pandas

How ironic. The day we go to deliver panda cupcakes to the New Member of AOII at GMU… a baby panda is born at the National Zoo! What an awesome day it was. Our friends Sophie and Katherine at Georgetown Cupcake created the cutest cupcakes to celebrate our new girls. The panda is AOII’s mascot and made for a  really sweet treat. It was  great to see all the ladies on our old stomping grounds- the JC! I can’t even tell you how many hours I lost in that place.

My alum chum Elaina!

Congrats girls!

New pandas in town

If you read this site then you often see a lot of my college friends pop up in posts. I met many of them through AOII. My best memories from school were with these women. The great thing about the family– it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Fall recruitment at GMU just wrapped up and we’re welcoming 37 amazing young women to our chapter. Follow them on twitter @aoiigmu and join their facebook page.

Clifton’s best kept secret

What a wonderful world… out in the little town of Clifton in Northern Virginia. It’s called Paradise Springs.. a winery perfect for the family. I met up with some college gal pals and their hubbies. We all brought the kids and they had a fantastic time. There’s plenty of place for children to run free and burn energy. There’s live music too. You can bring your own food.. wine and cheese, etc. They do sell food along with a delicious selection of wine that they press themselves. In fact, we got a mini tour and chance to watch them press chardonnay grapes!

Cheers to dear friends and fun times!

Sisterly love

One of the best things about living close to where you went to school and college is that there’s always great ways to reconnect– in person. Seems like so many of us know people through social networking.. but rarely get to know them or see them anymore in real life.

My friend Kere is awesome when it comes to organizing brunches for our AOII sisters to catch up. We do them almost every season and there’s always different girls from different classes there. As we get ready for Fall we can’t help but reminisce about Fall Rush at Mason and how we sadly admit the thought of it still gives us a slight high.

The young women of Gamma Alpha are gearing up for their Fall Rush next week and some of us plan to return to help out. Good luck little pandas.. keep the legacy going and know that even after you graduate your girls will be here for you.

Fraternal fun

It’s been some years since I graduated college (don’t ask!) but I have always felt a strong connection to the great friends I made during that time. Some of my best friends were found through my fraternity Alpha Omicron Pi. Recently, the national magazine called wanting to know how my AOII connections have played a part in my life and career. The interview was featured in the Spring 2012 issue. It also feature two other sisters in broadcasting KHQA’s Chrissy Mueller and Courtney Cason of QVC. PS for those asking… AOII is a fraternity, not a sorority because that term didn’t exist when we were founded. So we call ourselves a “fraternity of women.”

Holiday spirit with sisters

One of the best parts about college was meeting friends who I know will be there for a lifetime. Every now and then my AOII sisters from George Mason will gather to catch up. We decided to meet to share stories and a little holiday cheer at the Tasting Room at Reston Town Center. It was so good to see everyone again!

Tickled Pink: Mom & Daughter Fashion Show

Life, Lilly and the Pursuit of Happiness! You could feel the Palm Beach brand’s motto a million times over at Tickled Pink 8… an annual mother-daughter tea held at the Fairmont Hotel on M Street. Biscuits, scones, egg and salmon sandwiches and unlimited mimosas were on hand. We took part in the Lilly fashion show wearing prints provided by The Pink Palm.

Other news mommies who walked the colorful catwalk included 9NEWS’ Lesli Foster and daughter Jordan and NBC4’s Eun Yang and little Carys.  It was Adora’s first fashion show.. and she proved modeling is tough work. The poor baby passed out before our final walk to close the show. Great photos by Kipp Burgoyne, Alex Naini and Lesli Foster.

Crunch time for Fashion for Paws Models

Start your countdown! We are just 3 weeks away from DC’s elite fashion event of the year: The Washington Humane Society’s annual Fashion for Paws show.

Fundraising models like April Jones Firoozabadi have to raise $3,000 to walk their dog down the catwalk during the event. April held a charity event at Salon Daniel in McLean and raised more than 2-thousand dollars, the most money made ever in the show’s history by a single model at one event! Last year the show raised nearly $350,000 for animals in need.

Fashion for Paws will be at the National Building Museum on April 9th and expected to attend are DC’s A-List media personalities,  athletes, politicians and business leaders.

General Admission is sold out but you can still get VIP tickets at fashionforpaws.org

Baby on way

No… not #2! Don’t even go there people. My friend Vi is having a baby very soon and we all got together to celebrate little Gavin. It was the cutest shower thrown by Vi’s sister Tien and friend Peachy in Stone Ridge Virginia. I loved the ‘Candy Bar’ and catching up with so many sorority sisters from George Mason. It’s so funny to see how far so many of us have come from frat house to housewife and mom.

Dresses, Cake, historic… a Winchester Wedding

The bride with her golden locks down was darling in her white chiffon gown and sweetheart neckline. The groom was handsome in white vest and tie. The bridesmaids looked like soft lilac blossoms in JCrew silk chiffon ‘Taryn’ dresses in sweet thistle. Following the ceremony the reception was held at the historic George Washington Hotel.  The cake flawless and mini wedding cupcakes in customized boxes at each table were sweet savoirs for guests unable to wait til the cutting ceremony. Congratulations to my sorority sister and sweet friend through the years… Kinsey and her love Phil
