Happy Labor Day

Hey, hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. I went down to Irvington Virginia for a relaxing visit to Tides Inn. The little Chesapeake Bay resort is a good quick getaway. We overlooked the marina and met some really nice people from Newport News to Vienna. The weather was picture perfect, ate most of our meals outside. We were next to a small town I’m quite fond of.. Kilmarnock. A little more than a year ago I stayed in the town’s Inn. I seriously felt like I was in a movie back in colonial times. I just love this stuff. True little old town America.

Artists Help Save DC's Cherry Blossoms

Recently, a dozen local artists took to the tidal basin to create their interpretations of the cherry blossoms. Those paintings would eventually pay off. PROJECT:Arbor Day hosted by local artist Don Patron at District was an art show auction that raised money to help save the blossoms damaged by recent snowstorms. The event was a huge success.. $11,000 raised for the Trust for the National Mall to go towards rehabilitating the  trees.

Peep Show featuring Salahis, DC Snowstorm

My buddy Jennifer Lee at the Washington Post reminds us of the paper’s annual Peep Show Contest. This year the entries were out of this world– in fact there’s some real mushy magic in an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ entry. The big winner was the Pixar inspired ‘EEP!’ modeled after the movie UP. A peaceful, non-heat packin’ “Peepocalypse 2010” was also impressive… along with the White House ‘Party Peepers’ featuring marshmellow Salahis stuck beside President Barak Obunnypeep.
