Pink Painted bikini and big hearts Race for the Cure
The sun was shining and the pink was popping at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in DC. There were so many inspirational stories. While hosting the pre-show I met awesome people like a guy who painted a pink bikini on him in name of his grandmother who has breast cancer. Andrea Roane shined as the Mistress of Ceremonies and the WUSA9 booth in Komen Village created a mob fest! So much fun! Thank you to all who came out!

Pearls of Purpose
What an incredible night. FAIR Fund held it’s annual Pearls of Purpose gala at the City Tavern Club. Hundreds came out and nearly $60,000 was raised in the fight against sex trafficking. Survivors attended too… giving the evening even more strength.

Reporters Rock Journopalooza 2011
By Leigh Macdonald, WUSA9 Content Contributor. See more pics and full story at WUSA9.com
The National Press Club was rockin’ recently as reporters hit the stage armed with their instruments, musical talent, and rock star finery. At Journopalooza III, “journo-bands” competed to raise money for three charitable media organizations: The Committee to Protect Journalists/Journalist Assistance Program, The Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, and Reporters Without Borders.
The bands delivered fun and high-energy performances as an enthusiastic crowd—of more than 600 people—danced and cheered on the musicians. In all, seven bands performed, including: Dirty Bomb, Nobody’s Business, NRBK, Rebecca Christie & Peter Fields, Suspicious Package, The Charm Offensive, and The Stepping Stones.
All of the bands were impressive, but one band was ultimately named the evening’s winner, as determined by monetary votes from the crowd. That band, Suspicious Package, comprises Tom Toles (Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist at The Washington Post), Dr. Christina Sevilla(Director for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Liaison of the U.S. Trade Representative), Bryan Greene (General Deputy Assistant Secretary of HUD), Tim Berger (Journalist), and Josh Meyer(Director of Education and Outreach, National Security Journalism Initiative at Medill Northwestern).
