Bonding over Parenting Fails

It was a night full of jokes, real stories and even a boob bump. Yep, Alicia Ybarbo and Mary Ann Zoellner delivered more than just laughs at the book signing for their latest baby “Sh*tty Mom For All Seasons“. Anj Varma at Kidville led a discussion about parenting fails and how to pitch your story to the media. It was awesome to see so many moms with kids young and old come out! People asked questioned and even shared their parenting confessions. One mom confessed she drove over her daughter’s bike on the way out to get to the event! The reaction from the room was in line with the theme of the book: We got you sister. You are not alone!

Culture and Kids

A while ago I wrote about putting my 2 year old in Mandarin classes. We’ve since switched to Spanish because it just works out better with our schedule. Well when a friend sent me a link to these cool wooden blocks I had to get them. They’re Korean Character Blocks and what’s real cool is that the word is in English and there’s a pronunciation on one side of the block. Yeah, Adora is only into stacking them and knocking them down right now.. but I figure over time it will be a great learning tool.

Now I wanna get this book to the right! This is gonna get addictive.

Tracking the Uncontacted

I am fascinated with the uncontacted. The indeginous people who have no contact with the outside world. My twitter friend Scott Wallace just so happens to be an expert in this field. He tells me the book grew out of an assignment for National Geographic following a 34-man expedition into the deepest recesses of the Amazon rainforest to track a mysterious tribe known only as the flecheiros — or “People of the Arrow“. He says they are warriors who defend their land with showers of poison-tipped arrows before melting back into the forest shadows. Our mission was not to make contact, but to map the tribe’s territory in order to protect the land and the group from outsiders. It’s an incredible tale.

Hear his gripping first-person account of adventure and survival as described in his new book: The Unconquered: In Search of the Amazon’s Last Uncontacted Tribes.

Wallace will be doing a lecture and book signing at National Geographic this Thursday November 3rd. Get more information here…

“Go the F*** to Sleep” author comes to DC

He’s finally making it to DC. Adam Mansbach brings his hilarious (and very real) take on the not-so-perfect moments of parenthood to the Nation’s Capital.
Mansbach will do a public book signing of his #1 New York Times Best Seller “Go the F*** to Sleep.”

It’s going down next Wednesday July 27 at PJ Clarke’s. It’s from 6-8pm. Event location is 1600 K Street, NW DC. Based off the cover and my childhood I thing a funny tagline would be: Love, Tiger Mom

“Sex and the City” Creator Rooftop Party

The mind behind the Manolos– Candace Bushnell was in town talking Carrie before we knew her. Bushnell, an author and NYC columnist who inspired the famed SATC series and movies is taking us back, way back. Her new book Summer and the City (The Carrie Diaries) is the prequel to SATC introducing us to the lives of the fab four when they were friends in high school.

Bushnell who I found to be both fun and spunky did a rooftop book signing for an invitation only party atop the Residences on The Avenue. Notable guests included NBC4’s Eun Yang, Pamela Sorensen, Meredith Fineman, Cupcake stars Sophie Lamontagne and Katherine Kallinis, ABC7’s Pamela Brown and Capitol File’s Kate Bennett.

The book called ‘Inbox Full’ chronicles Ommanney’s search for a new life and love via text messages kept over the last 4 years. Cat tells us it also delves into the reason she had to go public about her tryst with Prince Harry. WUSA9 content contributor Leigh Macdonald went one on one with Cat about everything from a 2nd season to that ‘World Class Kiss!’

As for what’s ahead, Ommaney was recently spotted wearing a battery pack at this NY book launch. It has us asking are the wives back for a 2nd season? Ommaney wouldn’t say YES but said there is something definitely in the works and that she’s been in talks with a couple production companies.

Princess Stacie? Also revealed at the party: Housewife Stacie Turner is a Princess now in Nigeria. Stacie’s husband Jason said it recently happened after Stacie reunited with her birth father. Stacie was adopted through the D.C. adoptive system and recently undertook a difficult, yet ultimately successful, search to find her birth father.
