Shave for the Brave Approaching

On Wednesday September 21st where will you be? Can I convince you to join me and 46 brave moms at Union Station. These women will shave their heads in honor of their beautiful children battling cancer. It’s the 2nd Annual 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave and we want all the support we can get!

Celebrity shavers will be on hand to help the mommas out. They include media pals Arch Campbell, Alison Starling, Andrea Roane, Ed Henry, Tommy McFly, Natasha Barrett , Mary Amons and Flounder to name a few! Please come out and help cheer these wonderful women on. PR at Partners from Chevy Chase is bringing their talented team and photographer Tim Coburn will be doing before and after shots.

Why 46? That’s how many mothers are told each day that “your child has cancer.” The goal this year is to raise $1 Million dollars for St. Baldrick’s. We hope to see you at Union Station Sept. 21st!

Big break up

Somewhere out there my hairstylist is shouting from a mountain top. I finally did it. After decades of being a loyal Herbal Essence devotee I have kicked the bottle to the curb. I knew it would take something good, really good to make me switch shampoo. I loved Herbal Essence… ever since it came in this bottle on the right.

Then I stumbled on these. It’s WELLA’s Enrich line of hair care. The first time I used it… I had a couple co-workers say “You’re hair looks really good today.”  It took me by surprise. Then I decided to try it again.. and started to like the bounce but control my normally heavy coarse hair had.  The shampoo is  $13 and the conditioner $14 so yes pricier than your average supermarket brand.  There are a few different types of the Enrich line.. for coarse hair, for fine hair, normal hair and more. Ah, breaking up is hard to do… but after a good blow dry trust me you’ll be so over it. WELLA’s Enrich line is available at PR at Partners salons.

Remembering Mamie

Former CNN reporter Elizabeth Manresa and her husband Teddy Eynon hosted Monaco Nights to benefit Mamie’s Mile. 10% of the night’s sales at Bloomingdale’s Chevy Chase went to the organization that helps Childrens Hospital. Mamie’s Mile honors the memory of Elizabeth and Teddy’s beautiful daughter Mamie Grace. Mamie passed away at only 4 months following a brave fight and complications from heart surgery.

Lickin' Cancer

Survivors brought their pets and I brought my 2 legged baby to the 2nd Annual Critters for the Cure Fashion Show! It was an amazing night where cancer survivors showed their beauty and bravery as they took to the catwalk with their canine companions. The highlight of the evening was when several area doctors were honored by CFC founder Clancy Kress. Kress created Critters for the Cure after losing a dear friend to cancer.

Nursing: Never so pretty

I didn’t realize that I had to buy MORE maternity stuff after I had Adora. Then I realized how important finding the right nursing bra really is. I got a couple from the lactation specialist at the hospital but as you can imagine they weren’t the prettiest things.

Once I got home and a little settled I knew it was time to call ‘The Bra Lady’ Cyla Weiner of SYLENE DC. I knew Cyla would 1) help me find the right size AGAIN (um, they get bigger ladies!) and 2) have something pretty. I, like many women wrongly assumed anything with ‘nursing’ attached to it could not be attractive.

After trying on different styles and sizes I decided on a gorgeous patterned piece by Cake Lingerie  and a more traditional underwired nursing bra by Anita maternity. Cyla says you’ll get a lot of mileage out of the latter.  I took these pictures with my iPhone so sorry they look a little dim. As you can see Cyla has set the ‘blueberry bra’ on me on the last hook. She says that’s important when you first buy since you want to be able to make the band smaller as time passes and you start to drop the baby weight and swelling. ps- on the way out I saw the most amazing SPANX product yet. The Reversible Tights. One side is brown … the other is black. You can also get one side black and the other grey. Who’d a thunk? Two colors in one, so worth the price.
