The Ice village and slide are back at Gaylord National at National Harbor. The kids got a kick out of the new Jack Frost theme. The slides are always a hit. Be sure to grab some hot chocolate after before hopping on the carousel or decorating gingerbread cookies. Here’s more information on the exhibit which will be open through Christmas. You can get photos with Santa too.      ICE Frost

Tree Lighting in Georgetown Tuesday

fairmont DCHow does thousands of tiny white lights, shimmering Christmas trees and more than 30 animated reindeer sound? Magical would be the perfect word. Well add the 12th Annual Tree Lighting and you’ve got a wonderland experience waiting at the Fairmont Washington DC in Georgetown.
I’m honored to help light the tree with my daughter Adora on Tuesday Dec 1st at 5:30pm. We hope you can join us too. There will be hot chocolate and cookies of course. Enjoy the sounds of the Georgetown Visitation Madrigals while kids take time to decorate holiday crafts.
Oh did I mention Santa and Rudolph will stop by too?
The big stars of the show are the US Marine Corps Reserves who will be there as we celebrate the Toys for Tots Program. You’re encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate or donate online at

Merry Christmas friends!

From our family to yours!
What a great year it has truly been. Be blessed.

Elsa Tree Topper

With Adora loving Elsa and Bob loving Olaf we decided on a Frozen Christmas tree this year. We started at the top. A doll, a snowflake ornament and a little Krazy glue and voila… Elsa crowns the tree. Took me 5 minutes!

It’s a Tree-Tastrophy!

Mom and dad started taking down my Princess tree. I told them there’s snow outside it’s still Christmas! What were they thinking? As you can see it didn’t go over too well.

Adora putting the ornaments back on.

O Tiarabaum, O Tiarabaum

So this year I let my daughter do the tree. She is going through a Disney Princess phase right now so we had fun with it. I always have a real tree but decided to do a white one for the theme this year. We got cheap ornaments .. a mix of candy, birds, jewels at Big Lots and Walmart ($4 a box). I went to Michael’s and bought a Disney poster with plans to cut the faces out to put in wooden frames. We got the frames at Michael’s too (3.99) and painted them. The most pricey part was the actually Princess ornaments. I found them at CVS and Hallmark. They ranged from $7.99 to $19.99 a piece. Must admit.. they’re real cute!

Ariel is a hot commodity! Had to search everywhere to find her!

Cake toppers work as decorations too!

Found these cupcake ornaments at Walmart– so adorable!

My favorite— I tried to explain– this is Cinderellie’s!!!

I bought a star but it wouldn’t stay up– so I grabbed an extra tiara from her birthday party and we crowned the tree!

and Santa is still scary

A year has passed since this picture was taken. Adora was clearly frightened by the fat man in red. I was SO hoping things in 2012 would go better.

Instead… this year was worse. In fact it was sheer terror for the near 2-year-old.

Not even a peppermint lollipop could calm her down.

Merry Christmas

Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration is being wreathed in smiles.

Merry Christmas to you and yours

Gingerbread Village

This is my favorite time of the year. Today we went to check out the Gingerbread Village at the Reston Hyatt. They have one every year. Adora especially liked the choo-choo train that circles the village. What’s your favorite part about the holidays?
