Bonnie Bernstein ROCKs kids health

You’re use to seeing her cover the big sports story but now ESPN’s Bonnie Bernstein has taken on a new assignment- Get Kids FIT! Bonnie was in town for the ING KiDS ROCK race. She talked about this incredible program that is getting children K-6th grade moving towards a healthier lifestyle. Bonnie also offered up some excellent tips all families can consider:

  • Exercise as a family and set goals: Use the time not only to exercise, but to spend quality time with your kids. Hikes, bike rides, power walks. Makes time go by faster
  • Shop and cook together: Empower them to make healthy foods for themselves. Farmer’s markets are fun, can sample things
  • Plant a garden: Gives kids a sense of ownership… they’ll want to eat what they plant
  • Find healthy alternatives: Potato chips = apple or banana chips or Ice cream sundae = low fat yogurt + berries + fat free whipped cream + sugar free chocolate syrup
  • Spice up healthy foods: Smear of almond butter on an apple, celery, banana or put fruit salsa on chicken or fish

Christmas Traditions…

In my family we ALWAYS open one gift on Christmas Eve. This year was no different except– Adora got to open her first gift. It was from her brother Atticus. She got a plush white quilted blanket for her stroller rides and naps. Do you have any fun traditions?

Robert cracked up after I gave him a digital coin counter cup. You see this was more for me.. since I always complain about his loose change everywhere.

iPheel this present! Robert got me APP magnets. Genius!

Got this in the mail from old WUSA pal Sara Walsh (now at ESPN). It’ll help us remember this extra special Christmas.

ESPN says Robert De Niro will be Vince Lombardi in a new movie it’s making with help from the NFL. The film titled “Lombardi” will document the years he spent with Green Bay taking it from zero to hero, turning one of the worst teams into the best.” Eric Roth the guy who wrote “Forrest Gump” also signed on to the project.

No director named yet. Maybe they’ll tap Kathryn Bigelow— afterall she made the most macho movie of the year.

ESPN launches 3D Network

USA Today reports ESPN will launch ESPN 3D on June 11 with a World Cup soccer match, creating what it says will be the first all three-dimensional television network to the home.
ESPN 3D expects to showcase at least 85 live sporting events during the first year. There’ll be no reruns initially, so the network will be dark when there’s no 3D event. Among other events planned for 3D broadcast: the Summer X Games (extreme sports), NBA games, college basketball and college football.

The catch: You’re gonna have to have one of those mega techy TVs that is 3D compatible or you may need a new set-top box to watch.  Still no word if you’ll have to pay a premium.
