In time for fashion week: DC moms hit runway

So who are the “Runway Moms?”

The “Runway Moms for a Cause” also known as RMAC is an impactful intersection of philanthropy and fashion at its best.  They are hosting a runway show for an often overlooked issue all while trying to help find a solution.

The inaugural black tie event will focus on influential Washington DC mothers raising funds for Orphans through the United for Kids Foundation. The event will be hosted by new momma, FOX5’s Maureen Umeh.

Mark your calendar Friday, September 30th, 2011 at 6:30 pm at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Come support this awesome women and role models including good friends of OMG: Aba Kwawu, Rebecca Cooper, Maimah Karmo, Maggy Francois and Kelly Collis just to name a few!

Where the beef… meets broadcast

Shawn, Me and Elaine with Chef Philippe Reininger

The weather was perfect for an afternoon lunch with the news gals here in DC. This time we gathered at the new J&G Steakhouse on 15th and Pennsylvania. As we enjoyed appetizing fried calamari and rice cracker crusted tuna we laughed about being moms and the new “Go the ___ to Sleep” book that’s all the rave these days amongst parents. When it was entree’ time we were impressed to find out that the steakhouse is vegan friendly! A couple of the gals had no problem ordering. Halibut in a scallion-spicy chili sauce was a popular pick this day. I was also happy to see they have Sips & Bites from 5-7pm on weekdays where you can get smaller portions of their dishes paired with wine at the wine bar.

Crawfish Boil in Dupont

Suck the head, pinch the tails! Ok.. so I didn’t do that first part.. but I sure did enjoy cracking some mud bugs at the Crawfish Boil. Hosted by “The Cajun Experience” in Dupont, the party was fully dressed with the sounds of Lousiana and a menu made to please. I tried the Poboy sandwichs and gator bites which taste like chicken. I wasn’t bold enough to do the frog legs though. We saw Louisiana Senator David Vitter with his family.. not only dining but also dancing to the New Orleans band Zachary Smith and the Dixie Power Trio. Photo Credit: Dave Phillipich

SaraBeth’s, Magnolia.. must stop eating

What a Sunday in NYC. We started with navigating our way through the annual Puerto Rican Parade. We finally found entrance to the famous Sarabeth’s in Central Park where we wanted to brunch. Sarabeth’s can be argued the best brunch in the city and we were not disappointed. A must order– a basket of her signature muffins and preserves. As if that wasn’t enough.. we decided to eat cupcakes at Rockefeller Center. Where from? Magnolia of course. Later that evening I stopped by CBS studios on W. 57th to visit Russ Mitchell before he did the evening news. All in all a great day in the city.

Wedding dress shopping

We were SO excited to go with our bride-to-be Heather Brown wedding gown shopping!  She found one she really liked and we did too. Picture? Of course we’re not gonna show you. All I can say is that she looked beautiful. While at the boutique some really pretty sashes caught our eyes. I also found a great look for any future M.O.B. Following some gown gazing… a revisit to our good ole’ days together down South. The BBQ Fest was going on at Madison Square Park.. and despite the rain the scene wasn’t anything less than porkfection.

Remembering Mamie

Former CNN reporter Elizabeth Manresa and her husband Teddy Eynon hosted Monaco Nights to benefit Mamie’s Mile. 10% of the night’s sales at Bloomingdale’s Chevy Chase went to the organization that helps Childrens Hospital. Mamie’s Mile honors the memory of Elizabeth and Teddy’s beautiful daughter Mamie Grace. Mamie passed away at only 4 months following a brave fight and complications from heart surgery.
