New Free Shovel Service

There’s a news free service in our area that is helping people in need dig out of all this snow! is for senior citizens, the disabled or anyone physically unable to shovel. The site aims to match those in need with people who can help. Once on the site.. click “request assistance”  and type in your address. That will trigger an alert  for pepole on the platform who can help you shovel. You’ll be notified by phone call or email. We checked and so far 50 people in the DC area have signed up to volunteer to help shovel. You can sign up too! Follow @snowcreworg on twitter.

600 Backpacks up for grabs Sunday

From our viewers in West Virginia… they’re already thinking back to school, and giving back.

This Sunday, August 14th Hedgesville Church will give away 600 backpacks filled with school supplies.
All you have to do is bring your child by.. they must be with a parent. Live music, free food, free haircuts for the kids and moon bounce will be on hand. Four new bikes will be given out too.

Registration starts at 3pm at Hedgesville Church.
That’s at 6867 Hedgesville Road in West Virginia.

Let me butter you up with a free short stack this Tuesday from IHOP.  It’s part of the  National Pancake Day Celebration to Benefit Children’s Miracle Network and other local charities. This year IHOP hopes to stack up more donations for the kids with a fundraising goal of $1.75 million.  To find the participating places between 7AM-5PM near you visit

Since we’re on the topic of breakfast food check out this grub from Felix in Soho. Giovanna orderd the french toast with fresh fruit… while I went with poached eggs and a northern fave- fries with salad. Side note: I couldn’t help but notice all the servers were good looking men, the bartender the stand alone woman. Needless to say, nothing for us ladies to complain about 😉
