Wedding dress shopping

We were SO excited to go with our bride-to-be Heather Brown wedding gown shopping!  She found one she really liked and we did too. Picture? Of course we’re not gonna show you. All I can say is that she looked beautiful. While at the boutique some really pretty sashes caught our eyes. I also found a great look for any future M.O.B. Following some gown gazing… a revisit to our good ole’ days together down South. The BBQ Fest was going on at Madison Square Park.. and despite the rain the scene wasn’t anything less than porkfection.

Prom dress code divides students, parents

I’m hearing that Prom this year at Freedom High School in Loudoun County is “polarizing” the community. I’m told it all started after the school posted a dance “‘dress code.” Here’s a copy of what the kids got- basically no high slits, cut out bodices, plunging necklines and ultra low open backs.

Shocker.. students are upset. So much so they aren’t going- to THAT prom. In fact, I’ve learned via an anti-dress rule revolution online the students organized an “alternate’ party. One on a boat. One that got more than 60 students out to a local McDonalds within half an hour to sign up for the unofficial “second prom.”

Last night I’m told the principal held a meeting– parents came out swinging on both sides and nothing was decided upon. So come next week.. we’ve got two parties and now parents saddened that their kids who’ve grown up together won’t share one of the biggest moments in high school.

Also, included in the rules that went out: this graphic. Can’t help but find it amusing. I’m not gonna share the bump ‘n’ grind pictures attached to it showing “appropriate” and “inappropriate” dancing.  Just use your imagination.

WHCD Weekend: Rented the dresses and all!

Michelle Obama donned a long Halston dress at the White House Correspondents Dinner the same designer I chose to wear too! Hers was probably a gazillion dollars where mine cost only$75bucks. HOW you ask? I RENTED it.

Yep-   It’s my new favorite thing. Renting dresses and jewelry from Rent-the-Runway.com. There’s designers fit for the First Lady you can rent for a fraction of the cost. I mean- some are only $25!  Not only did I rent the Jet Black Halston for the party night.. I got a Lela Rose dress for brunch the next day.

This is how it works. You choose the 4 day span to rent your dress for time to get it, wear it and mail it back. They give you all you need. Oh and here’s a perk- you can choose a second size for free! The Halston halter was $455 but I rented it for $75. I also rented the this $545 Dannijo cuff.. for $45.

Here’s the cuff I rented for $45.. the Dannijo bracelet retails for $545

Kate Middletons Dress… Long Live McQueen

Lace longsleeves, her signature plunging neckline, a couture bussle and tiara from the Queen (who recieved it on her 18th birthday). Princess Catherine was a stunner. Dress created by Sarah Burton of late designer Alexander McQueen.

Monique Lhuillier named this dress “Katherine” in anticipaton of what Kate was gonna wear. Not a bad guess!

WUSA9's Kristin Fisher Marries

Congrats are in order for WUSA9′s Kristin Fisher. Our former morning show reporter (she’s moved to the day shift …sniff ) married her true love Walker over the weekend. The gorgeous ceremony was held at The Church of the Holy City in DC… and a rockin’ reception with an extraordinary view followed at the Hay-Adams Hotel. Highlights included a jaw-dropping beautiful bridal gown, a sweetly executed toast by the bride’s sister Kara and out-of-this world party favors: moon pies and freeze-dried ice cream. Hey what do you expect from a bride who is the daughter of two NASA astronauts. It was great to catch up with some 9NEWS colleagues too.. Jessica Doyle, Andrea Roane and Larry Lewis. I think it’s fair to say from all of us.. best and bright wishes to the newlyweds!

Correspondents Dinner

Journalists from all networks .. national and international, print and radio turned out for the annual Correspondents Dinner at the Washington Convention Center. WUSA had a nice little table too. I have to say Rep. Anthony Weiner and The Daily Show’s Larry Wilmore both killed it on stage— and anyone who’s been to these dinners know– this is one crowd that’s tough to crack.
