DC Bartender Wins Nat'l Model Search (ps- he's single!)

Take one look at his picture… and do you even ask why?

Congrats to DC’s Yonas Kutlu who won the Macveneers Model search for 2010 this fall.  He used to complain of little teeth and didn’t smile with his mouth open.  When he walked into Aesthetic Dental Spa, he didn’t even know that there was something Dr. Alex could do for him.  Two visits later, he had a smile makeover with 10 Veneers.Depending on Macveneers’ ad campaign this year, you may see him in Vogue and In Style Magazines!

PICTURES: Yonas’ teeth before smile makeover

BUT you’ve probably seen him around town already. Yonas (who’s single!) is currently a bartender at The Park at 14th and has even been on the cover of  On Tap magazine as best bartender.

Angie reports on DTC’s Gala on WUSA9 Below

There’s an event I’ve had the honor of attending for the last three years. It’s put on by one incredible woman, Rosemary Tran Lauer. She was an immigrant from Vietnam, a mother of 5 who struggled to succeed but was determined. Once she got on her feet, her experience and story inspired her to help other families in need.

Rosemary created Devotion to Children. The group provides everything from healthcare, daycare, childcare and educational services to families with young who cannot afford it.  DTC has helped hundreds of families across Virginia thanks to successful fundraisers and nights like last night. The Red Heart and Soul Gala is in it’s 8th year and it was an honor to serve again as the emcee.  Together, DTC hopes to raise $200,000 in 2011 to help more families. We hope that you will join in the pledge to break the poverty cycle that exists amongst so many local families.

Redskins baby goes to the dentist!

Who says going to the dentist is scary!

Redskins linebacker, Lorenzo Alexander , brought in his daughter Zoie to see Dr. Alex Naini at Aesthetic Dental Spa in McLean to show parents how to care for their children’s teeth.  Teaching children good dental habits at a young age reduces the  fear of going to the dentist and creates a lifetime of a healthy smile.

Pink Masquerade & Prayers Needed

Founder Maimah Karmo and her Tigerlily Foundation hosted their Pink Masquerade 2010, in hopes of raising awareness of young women battling breast cancer. I would love if you could keep my friend Stef Woods (pictured right) in your prayers. She just started her round of chemo and we are wishing her strength with much love during this challenging journey.

Thank you to Maimah and her network for continuing to educate our public about how real this disease is and how it can touch anyone… no matter how old you are.

Obamas, Glee, Elmo at Easter Egg Roll

I got up at 1:00 AM for one of the funnest assignments I’ve ever had. Covering the White House Easter Egg Roll. I thought wedges would be great for the lawn affair but soon realized the open-toewas no match for the early morning dew! Probably more uncomfortable than me were the dozens of characters in mascot uniforms… OMG proudly scored the first on-cam interview with the Roll’s power couple: Mr & Mrs Bunny.

See my wusa9 report below that includes the First Family, Glee’s performance, my basketball skills and interview with Elmo!

I'm racing in the Kentucky Derby!

I am a lover of the races. I cried when I watched Seabiscuit. I balled when Barbaro took his last breath. I always honor the dress code no matter where the race is I attend. Last year I broke the rule… passed over Lilly Pulitzer for Betsey Johnson. This year I’m doing something ludicrous. I’m racing!

Kentucky Derby Marathon here I come.

I’ve hesitated announcing I’m running another 26.2 miles in a month because I was unsure if I was mentally there yet. It’s been more than a year since I did the Marine Corps Marathon and it’s taken time to believe it could be done again. I ran 13 miles this past weekend and it’s exactly what I needed. Half way there… and perfect place to be just a month before race day. Yep, BTW  it’s April 24th.

This is the first time I’ll get close to the Kentucky Derby and I’m fine that it’s not all about the big hats. It’s cool that I can instead boast about my bigger feet as the swelling sets in. I went to buy new running shoes the other day and the guy said what size? I said “11”. He said “ELEVEN?”. I said yes. He said “ELEVEN?”. I said yes “Eeee-Leven”.

You should’ve seen his face when they actually fit.
