Bob & Ava Meet their Extended News Family

Big thanks to dear friends Rebecca Cooper and Jill Collins for throwing the best Sip ‘n’ See at Carmine’s for Bob and Alison Starling’s little Ava. It was a wonderful way to get the babies together (which you can tell Ava is already crushin’) and show them off to all our great friends in the business! Throwing a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Birthday Party

My daughter turned 3 and now that she’s in school and has girlfriends we decided to do an all girls party! A couple of my friends had done a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme and thought it was so cute. With the help of event planning mom Katie Wells with Petite Social we came up with a fun and fabulous party just for the little ladies! Activities included digging for diamonds, balloon art, face painting and even a visit from Santa Claus! Party notes are at the end of the post.

Back from Vegas

Social Media Panel with NPR's Elise Hu and Yahoo's Angela Kim

What an odd place Las Vegas is. I will say my first sense of excitement came when I spotted an In ‘n’ Out joint.. man I miss those from my days in Cali.  I also loved meeting  Tamlyn Tomita at the OCA Annual Dinner… hello anyone remember Karate Kid II?!?!?

All in all Vegas was a great place for a conference and I also really loved seeing a lot of old pals at UNITY and learning new ways our biz is changing.

Business aside … we got to try some cool stuff too but like most trips to fun places there’s just wasn’t enough time to do it all.

We stayed at Mandalay Bay and tried China Grill. I was very pleased with their tofu tots which came with an excellent kimchi sauce for dipping.

We ate at the Stratosphere at Top of the World. The view of the city is magnificent and surprisingly you don’t get sick while you rotate throughoutdinner. The food wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad. We were hoping to catch crooner Frankie Moreno who does a bit before dinner but we got there too late. Locals say.. this guy is better than Michael Buble’.

I had time to squeeze in a show so we went to one of the hottest right now in Vegas- Absinthe. All I can say is OMG and we’ll leave it at that. (Actually you need to know if you’re in Sin City.. .SEE THIS)

I headed to LUXOR the big pyramid and was weirded out by the elevators that go up at a slant. There I checked out the TITANIC exhibit and also freshened up at the Oxygen Bar.

Of course I couldn’t leave without seeing the spectacular fountains of the Bellagio.

Then it was time to pack and head back to not so wild Washington. Back at work Tuesday… $6 richer thanks to the Kitty Glitter slots!

Leaving for Las Vegas…

At a conference with my girls Jan Jeffcoat (The List) and Natasha Curry (HLN)

Am I the only person who has NEVER been to Las Vegas? I’m headed there for the UNITY journalism conference and will be speaking on a panel Thursday on Social Media and News. This conference happens every four years and is a really fun way to catch up with old friends in the business. The last couple I’ve attended have been in DC and Minneapolis. Vegas is sure to be a great time.
