“Honoring the Promise” with the Stars

Nancy Brinker addresses the crowd

“You are the future” Ambassador Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation told a crowd of young Washingtonians. We attended the Komen Young Professionals reception held at a pink-lit Peacock Cafe’ in Georgetown. The event help kick off the buzz for what promises to be one of the premiere events of the Fall: Komen’s “Honoring the Promise” Gala on October 28th at The Kennedy Center. Last year, the non-profit celebrated 30 years of trying to find a cure and saving lives along the way. Last year’s star-studded gala included presenters Laura Bush, Gabrielle Union, Cynthia Nixon, Tory Burch… performers like Olivia Newton John, Lynda Carter.. and the Australian pop star who’s dating one of the Jonas Brothers, Delta Goodrem. That passionate evening raised a phenomenal $2 million dollars.

This year the stage will shine bright again. DC favorite Rosario Dawson is already one of  the presenters confirmed. NBC’s Hoda Kotb, a breast cancer survivor will be the Master of Ceremonies. Jot this down, mark the calendar and get ready to break out that black tie or gorgeous gown for an evening of entertainment and special awards!

Judge Angie… really?

Don’t worry… I won’t be mediating anything in a courtroom. Instead, I get to help pick who wears the next crown for Washington!

I never competed in pageants but I have to admit I love watching them. Miss America  is especially one of my faves– you’ve got to have a talent to compete in that one. Plus a lot of my girlfriends have competed in the internationally famous competition to include TV gal pals Natasha Curry, Leanza Cornett and Tara Wheeler.

Of course “the interview” is vital. What question would you want me to ask the future Miss DC?

Below, it’s obvious I’m not fit for a crown

Pearls of Purpose

What an incredible night. FAIR Fund held it’s annual Pearls of Purpose gala at the City Tavern Club. Hundreds came out and nearly $60,000 was raised in the fight against sex trafficking. Survivors attended too… giving the evening even more strength.

Strength in Numbers: Pink Jam's "Thousand Words"

What an inspiring night. 100 spectacular photos of people in our community… survivors, fighters, lovers, performers. All with words in hand  ready to send breast cancer a message.

The exhibit at the Atlas Performing Arts Center was presented by Pink Jams and Shoot for Change. Titled “A Thousand Words” the exhibit brought together brave faces of those who’ve been touched by breast cancer.

Hats off to Pink Jams’ Christa Floresca and Shoot for Change’s Walter Grio. The dynamic duo proved we can all think pink through the power of black and white.

Check out some of our friends featured in the exhibit below. We caught up with Kate Marie Grinold, Ashley Estill, Nadine & Bryan Namoff, Jennifer Harlow, Friends of CBCC and Lynda Erkiletian.. who was so kind to give this mommy’s arms a short break 😉

Fall Favorite: Capital City Ball

We had a blast at the ball!  Held at the historic Washington Club on Dupont Circle, the 2010 Capital City Ball raised funds and awareness to fight human trafficking. Money raised went to local non profits like Fair Fund and Courtney’s House. Silent auction prizes included a trip to Italy and a pair of shoes worn and signed by Sarah Jessica Parker.
