Making a Leprechaun Trap

It’s March 1st so the official countdown to one of my favorite holidays (not because it’s my birthday hee hee) is on! St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner which means we don’t have much time to catch that tricky Leprechaun. The kids had the best time making a trap. It’s so easy. All you need is a shoe box, a stick or pencil and some moss. Fill the box up and prop the top with the stick. You can bait the leprechaun with mini pots of gold, coins, skittles or me lucky charms! We know the little guys like rainbows too.. so we added one on the box. As we were making the trap Adora asked me if leprechauns have families. I told her of course they do. She then got sad and said.. well if we trap him then what about his family. I told her it’s like a fish.. we always throw it back 🙂

Our Fairy Door

My daughter loves fairies. When thdoore weather is nice we actually have gone on walks looking for real fairies. Well if your little one is into the whimsy they’ll probably love the Lil Fairy Door. This is a door that can be put on your wall in a book shelf pretty much any where your fairy likes to get in and out of your house while you’re sleeping. You leave her notes.. and she writes you back. Adora sometimes leaves her gifts.. and she gets surprises sometimes too. The fairy is always watching.. kind of like Elf on the Shelf. She wants to make sure you’re being on your very best behavior. She also has teeny tiny fairy ears .. so when you scream it really hurts. Sometimes I have to remind the kids of that. We got our fairy door here but it took a while to come in because things were back-ordered. Since then I found some cheaper ones with adorable accessories on etsy.

fairy mailAdora looking for fairies in 2014

Do you ever scroll through your camera roll for pix and videos you took years ago? I was stuck waiting at a place with no wi-fi (heaven forbid!) so I decided to look at the oldest stuff stored on my phone. That's when I came across this video. It's of Adora 2 years ago on a quest to find real fairies. As time goes by…it's amazing how one can forget little moments, sweet frames of childhood captured on the fly.Thank goodness for that crummy wi-fi.

Ugly Truth of Having a Baby

Hi from New York! I’m up here all week guest hosting Early TODAY and First Look on MSNBC. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shared my post on What I Wish I had Known Before Bringing Home Baby. It was the  TODAY Show’s Parenting Team question of the month. On Thursday tune in to the TODAY Show during the 8AM hour. I’ll be joining some other moms to talk about all the weird things that happen when you’re expecting! Should be a fun and informative conversation. See you on TODAY!

Spring it on! With Sugar

The snow is melting and there’s no turning back now. What better way to say “Spring come on!” than with spring cookies. With my little helper Adora we hosted a cookie decorating workshop at Wildfire at Tysons Galleria. Highlights of the event is seeing so many friends and meeting new people.. and also benefiting Food for Others. FFO helps provide food for those who can’t afford it living in Fairfax County. I love being able to teach my daughter about giving back while she is young and so impressionable. She really had fun and felt she was doing something good. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Happy New Year!

2015 is gonna be good.. we can feel it.

Throwing a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Birthday Party

My daughter turned 3 and now that she’s in school and has girlfriends we decided to do an all girls party! A couple of my friends had done a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme and thought it was so cute. With the help of event planning mom Katie Wells with Petite Social we came up with a fun and fabulous party just for the little ladies! Activities included digging for diamonds, balloon art, face painting and even a visit from Santa Claus! Party notes are at the end of the post.
