“Honoring the Promise” with the Stars

Nancy Brinker addresses the crowd

“You are the future” Ambassador Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation told a crowd of young Washingtonians. We attended the Komen Young Professionals reception held at a pink-lit Peacock Cafe’ in Georgetown. The event help kick off the buzz for what promises to be one of the premiere events of the Fall: Komen’s “Honoring the Promise” Gala on October 28th at The Kennedy Center. Last year, the non-profit celebrated 30 years of trying to find a cure and saving lives along the way. Last year’s star-studded gala included presenters Laura Bush, Gabrielle Union, Cynthia Nixon, Tory Burch… performers like Olivia Newton John, Lynda Carter.. and the Australian pop star who’s dating one of the Jonas Brothers, Delta Goodrem. That passionate evening raised a phenomenal $2 million dollars.

NBC’s Hoda Kotb, a breast cancer survivor will be the Master of Ceremonies. Jot this down, mark the calendar and get ready to break out that black tie or gorgeous gown for an evening of entertainment and special awards!

Pink Painted bikini and big hearts Race for the Cure

The sun was shining and the pink was popping at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in DC. There were so many inspirational stories. While hosting the pre-show I met awesome people like a guy who painted a pink bikini on him in name of his grandmother who has breast cancer. Andrea Roane shined as the Mistress of Ceremonies and the WUSA9 booth in Komen Village created a mob fest! So much fun! Thank you to all who came out!

Komen Gala: Laura Bush, Tory Burch, Olivia, Lynda & More

Click to Watch The Stars Break It Down on WUSA9 TV

Honoring the Promise was one of the most beautiful events I have attended in Washington. The gala/concert commemorating Ambassador Nancy Brinker’s promise to her sister to find a cure 30 years ago brought more than the stars out— it gave hope. Network news anchor and breast cancer survivor Robin Roberts was an excellent emcee and survivor stories from Cynthia Nixon, Olivia Newton-John and Australian singing sensation Delta Goodrem touched the heart. Former First Lady Laura Bush got a standing ovation as she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Distinction Award. Tory Burch (with a magnificent necklace!) presented DC’s First Lady Michelle Fenty with the Community Distinction Award for her work with the Capital Breast Care Center. The night raised $1.9 Million dollars.. the most Komen has EVER raised in one evening.
