Fall Housewarming

Congrats to my friend Kristina on her new beautiful home! We stopped by to toast the new digs in Arlington and she was truly the hostess with the mostest. She had a great spread and I just adored the mini pumpkin spice cakes with vanilla glaze. She added twix bars as stems! How cute. Fall.. such a fun time for a party!

Adora with proud new homeowner!

YUM!!!

Great deck comes with a loyal watchdog!

With June bug

The backyard is huge… perfect for entertaining (and letting wild kids run free)

There was a mild case of pumpkin chunkin’ before entering.

Holiday spirit with sisters

One of the best parts about college was meeting friends who I know will be there for a lifetime. Every now and then my AOII sisters from George Mason will gather to catch up. We decided to meet to share stories and a little holiday cheer at the Tasting Room at Reston Town Center. It was so good to see everyone again!

Tickled Pink in Potomac

I cannot even begin to tell you how overwhelmed with emotion I am with all the support I’ve gotten from friends, family and co-workers over the last 8 months. My sisters Jenny and Tricia threw me a beautiful shower at good friend Dr. Alex’s Potomac home.

It was more than perfect– it was as I told the crowd– a room filled with so much love. Wish I could post the hundreds of pictures and special moments captured by REVAMP.com’s Daniel Swartz and Rita Lawrence with Bitsy Baby Photography. Please check out their galleries. Sweet thanks to Frosting: A Cupcakery for sending devilishly good dessert. No cupcake was left behind. Shout out to the gorgeous Lauren Von Der Pool and staff with green catering company Von Der Pool Gourmet.  I didn’t learn til after the party that the ‘beef wontons’ were vegan! I would’ve never known. They were delicious!

The best part of all? Seeing so many women from different phases of my life- high school, college, SC, DC, News, philanthropy and  mamas-to-be coming together to help me celebrate my first step into motherhood. Thank you everyone from me and baby “A”. Read more about the shower at REVAMP.com where Leigh Macdonald wrote a very kind recap of the party.

Mangiamo!

SWEET!

A taste of Italia comes to Bethesda. We were there for the VIP Grand Opening of Vapiano on Bethesda Row. Between the ages-old  olive trees and the warm mod decor… a blend of past and present was strong in the new restaurant. Vapiano’s offers a neat set-up… celebrating the concept of mediterranean group cooking. Guests’ meals are made-to-order right before your eyes. We tried the bruschetta, warm breads, basil pasta, chicken alfredo and of course thin crust pizza. In the end.. you get a hearty affordable meal while dining among an urban upscale feel.

Dresses, Cake, historic… a Winchester Wedding

The bride with her golden locks down was darling in her white chiffon gown and sweetheart neckline. The groom was handsome in white vest and tie. The bridesmaids looked like soft lilac blossoms in JCrew silk chiffon ‘Taryn’ dresses in sweet thistle. Following the ceremony the reception was held at the historic George Washington Hotel.  The cake flawless and mini wedding cupcakes in customized boxes at each table were sweet savoirs for guests unable to wait til the cutting ceremony. Congratulations to my sorority sister and sweet friend through the years… Kinsey and her love Phil

As the Newlyweds wished… we promise to Eat, Drink and Be Married!

Sex & The City 2 Screening, What DC Wore & Says

WATCH NOW: SATC2 Screening at AFI on WUSA9 TV

We came, we saw, we wore stilettos.. wedges.. platforms and even flashy flats!

Katherine Kennedy, Courtney Robinson, Amanda Polk and Nina Snow

There wasn’t an extra seat left in the historic AFI Silver Theatre for the official Warner Bros. & Moet-Chandon screening of Sex and the City 2.  Here’s what some of Washington’s top fashionistas had to say after the Champagne & Cinema night:
My favs were many of Samantha’s one liners (like “ohhh Charles of my Labia” instead of Charles of Arabia) – HAH! -Kristina Dorville, Government

I appreciated how they focused on what real women go through from being single, married, kids and menopause, lol. -Maggy Francois, Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce

I wish there was more flashbacks to their youth when they first arrived in NYC. It was a blast of a movie that sure didn’t disappoint but left me holding my breath for the trilogy.
-Katherine Kennedy, KMK PR

Movie Times: Sex and the City 2

SATC is like seeing old friends again. Everyone smiles when their favorite comes on the screen. I was sort of disappointed that they took the ladies out of NYC. I always enjoyed finding out the new hot restaurants, night clubs, stores. -Amanda Polk, Philanthropist

I had such a great time with all of the girls and loved the Moet combo. -Courtney Robinson, ABC7 Reporter

I loved the flashbacks to them first arriving in new york and samantha getting kicked out of the country for making out on the beach was classic. -Lauren Pomponio, Muscle Milk

Loved: The dynamic about mothers was especially lovely to share with my mom and I felt like it helped me better understand how it must have been to raise me as a single parent
-Carissa Maguire, Event Planner

I liked some of the outfits and how the middle east was portrayed as modern and old, extravagant and over the top in some ways and simple and 3rd world in other ways…that is soooo true :)   -Dr. Alex Naini, Aesthetic Dental Spa

Pros: Great fashion, Aidan is hot, loved Carries hair (but hated a couple of outfits where her boobs were bursting out. It looked a bit desperate). Cons: There was a TON of advertising -Jenny Goff, Teacher

I was expecting more fashion but loved when the middle eastern women de-robed w/ the spring collection of some known designers. -Christine Brooks-Cropper, GWFCC

I also like how they show that no ones life is perfect. If you are single, married, or have kids, there are always new challenges! -Keri Ann Meslar, Philanthropy/Events

Andrea Roane, Wes Vaughn , Suzanne Mansfield and Jenny Goff

Oh Snap! Wedding in West Point

Susan and Matt Longley in Bellevue, Virginia May 8, 2010

I had the pleasure of visiting West Point Virginia for the first time. It’s the home of 3 rivers, 2 bridges, 1 special place. It’s perhaps most special to my dear friend Susan Rabil who wed her soul mate Matthew Longley there.  It’s a quaint little town that thrives off a paper milled. On May 8th it played home to quite a party.  The reception was held at the gorgeous Bellevue estate in Bellevue Virginia. We sipped lemonade in mason jars and found our seat assignment planted in real grass.

SUPERSTITION: On the right is a pictuer of Susan digging for a bottle of Jack. They buried it months ago as a good luck charm so that it wouldn’t rain. Legend has it it is if it does you drink it… if it doesn’t you pass it on to the next person in the family who’s getting married. We got wind… no rain and despite a couple guests attempts to crack the bottle.. it stayed sealed tight.

Other highlights included Georgetown Cupcakes in leu of cake. I also loved getting together with all the AOIIS… three… Kristina, Kinsey and Alicia were in Susan’s wedding.  One of the biggest emotional moments… when Susan danced with her grandfather, Fred.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the tent.

Society 2.0: Tracking DC's Top Social Status

There’s probably a lot of stuff out there you’d be surprised to find out about the so called movers ‘n’ shakers in this city. That’s why I’m tracking it online and bringing you the ‘best of’ every week in my new Washington Life online column Society 2.0!

It’s called the Social Status Report and today I pluck pix and bits from the twitter pages of Luke Russert, Leslie Sanchez at CNN, socialite Susanna Quinn and MTV International’s Blonde Charity Mafia’s Sophie Pyle.

Birthday with Solid Friends & LiquidA

Thanks to sister-for-life Kristina Dorville who took it back old school to Arlington to celebrate my life. How old you ask? According to the picture on the right..I’d say about 5. (And while we’re on this picture why not add: cheeky Carissa is a supermodel- had to steal that one from Lauren P)

It’s a great example of a carefree night had by all at the Clarendon Grill in Arlington. Apparently, there was another girl named Katie celebrating her birthday too but my good friends made it clear to the band there was truly only ONE party in the house! All you had to do was look for the front row of friends who created the first ever ‘hit line’. Yep excessive ’fist pumping’ was in the air and our energetic ring leader was none other than good friend Katherine Kennedy. If our performance didn’t win you over chances are we had you at “Want a mini red velvet cupcake from Bakeshop?”  Justin the owner of the new Arlington joint was so sweet to send dozens of the birthday bites our way.  [Pictured above: Carissa, Jesse, Dr. Alex, Angie & Lauren P. Are you (PEEP) Kidding Me??

Angie & KristinaPeeps & Company

I’m stuck.

Cannot seem to figure out out of ALL the candy in the world how the sugar-covered marshmellows we all know as PEEPS landed their own shop. America’s first Peeps & Company opened at National Harbor Thursday. With more than 850 products to choose from.. in addition to the soft guys.. we’re talking t-shirts, key chains, blow-up peeps and even tablewear. Just Born Inc is behind the business and while I can think of a hundred different sweets that would make a sweeter store I admit I plan to pop in. The sugar heads are so darn cute. Plus.. the candy maker is based in Bethlehem PA- the beloved hometown of OMG ultimate peep Kristina Dorville. (right)

So while we’re on the soft topic I figured I’d share my favorite PEEP show.

Peeps Love Georgetown Cupcake

I’m also prompted to start a list of candy I would LOVE to see a store made of:

  • Bit-O-Honey
  • Hot Tamales
  • Peanut Butter M&MS
