Tickled Pink in Potomac

I cannot even begin to tell you how overwhelmed with emotion I am with all the support I’ve gotten from friends, family and co-workers over the last 8 months. My sisters Jenny and Tricia threw me a beautiful shower at good friend Dr. Alex’s Potomac home.

It was more than perfect– it was as I told the crowd– a room filled with so much love. Wish I could post the hundreds of pictures and special moments captured by REVAMP.com’s Daniel Swartz and Rita Lawrence with Bitsy Baby Photography. Please check out their galleries. Sweet thanks to Frosting: A Cupcakery for sending devilishly good dessert. No cupcake was left behind. Shout out to the gorgeous Lauren Von Der Pool and staff with green catering company Von Der Pool Gourmet.  I didn’t learn til after the party that the ‘beef wontons’ were vegan! I would’ve never known. They were delicious!

The best part of all? Seeing so many women from different phases of my life- high school, college, SC, DC, News, philanthropy and  mamas-to-be coming together to help me celebrate my first step into motherhood. Thank you everyone from me and baby “A”. Read more about the shower at REVAMP.com where Leigh Macdonald wrote a very kind recap of the party.

Peggy Fox joined my famly and friends for my first ‘social sonogram’… something more expecting moms are starting to do. Linda Rihani who runs Baby to Be Images says it’s a growing trend. A visit that use to be just between partners has an open door policy at some place. At Baby To Be  there’s a plush couch for guests and gorgeous mural on the wall where the images of your baby are projected for all to ooooh and awwwww.  Pictures below.

For $125 I got the session and a CD with 3D and 2D pictures of my baby and a DVD recording of the entire session. At 29 weeks my baby was still breach so it was tough to see past her hand. I plan to go back in a few weeks when she is turned so I can get a full view of her face and more!  For more information check out babytobeimages.com

My Social Sonogram, baby opens her eyes!

In a couple weeks we’ll be airing Peggy Fox’s story on having a ‘Social Sonogram.’ It was like watching a real time movie in 3D. My audience included my parents, two sisters Jenny and Tricia who flew in from Texas and good friends Alex Naini and Krystal Person (who’s expecting too!). Stay tuned for pics and video. I’ll save the 3D images to share later… we first did an old fashion sonogram where my baby girl actually looked at the camera– you can see her left eye.. but not her right because her hand was casting a shadow on that side of her face. She kept opening her eyes and yawning! So cute.

Smashing Reception at the British Embassy

October is breast cancer awareness month and one of the biggest events happening is this Thursday: The Gift of Life Breakfast.

It’s the annual signature event of the Capital Breast Care Center. This amazing place is the only community based center that gives free breast  screenings and other services to women who cannot afford it– for free.  DC’s First Lady Michelle Fenty is the President of CBCC and so passionate about this issue. She supported us at our Newsbabes event in May and continues to push the fight in funding for this disease. Other rocks behind the cause… British Ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald and his lovely wife who opened their Washington home for a reception to kick-off excitement for the breakfast. At the party, Mayor Adrian Fenty read a proclamation declaring October as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ in DC. Speaking at the Gift of Life Breakfast this Thursday… some of Washington’s most prominent women including Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton and Councilwoman Mary Cheh. Tune in for coverage of the kick-off event on the WUSA9 Morning Show  Thursday morning.
