It was a rare scene. UN Foundation President Timothy Wirth couldn’t recall a time when the Ben Franklin room at the State Departmentwas transformed into a photo exhibition for anything. More monumental than the pictures : the cause. The world water crisis brought hollywood stars like Kenna, Lupe Fiascotogether with leaders like Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero and Ambassador-at-Large for Global Partnerships Elizabeth Frawley Bagely. The photo exhibit featured the trek up Kilimanjaro in January led by Kenna which included climbers Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau and the UN Foundation’s Elizabeth Gore. It was called ”Summit on the Summit” and was meant to raise awareness about the 1 billion people around the world who don’t have access to clean water.

Right now my friend Elizabeth Gore of the UN Foundation is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. In her group which they’re calling Dos Locos are singer Lupe Fiasco, Jessica biel and Isabel Lucas. After recovering for a muddy fall yesterday I just got word that their team is camped out at 16 thousand feet. Tonight they’ll get up at 2AM and climb to the summit. They will have 15 hours of climbing ahead of them to reach their goal. If all goes to plan the team should hit the summit around 9AM our time Tuesday! Here in DC we’re rootin for you Dos Locos. You can do it!
Elizabeth is part of Summit on the Summit. Environmentalist Alexandra Cousteau of DC is also part of the big climb. It’s the project created by singer Kenna…an expedition that has brought celebrities together to raise awareness of the 1 billion worldwide that lack access to clean drinking water.
