Track Snow Plows Where You Live

Waking up wondering when your street is gonna be plowed.
Log on to for Virginia’s digital Snow Plow Tracker. From what I can tell this morning most of the trucks are in Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area. Plug in your address.. and even get the option to take a look at LIVE traffic cameras around where you live.
In Maryland, on the Prince Georges County website.. you can zoom in to where you live, and using a legend you can tell what’s been salted or plowed. Montgomery County’s website has a snowmap… Just plug in your address to request service.
In the District, DC dot gov has a “Snow Response Reporting System” updated every half hour.
But note, you have to ZOOM IN on where you live and then click START and the the trucks on the map will pop up.

#FastSnow moving through

Within the first hour of the snow falling everyone I heard from on social media commented on how fast the stuff was accumulating outside their door. #Snowday instantly started trending on twitter… following #closures and #telework. I think the hashtag of the morning should be #FastSnow because that’s what everyone seems to be talking about. Remember to tweet us your photos @nbcwashington or email them to Thanks!

Missing the storms

Animal shelters have no power and are asking for supplies

As we headed for vacation last Thursday I knew that we  would escape the horrendous heat but I didn’t anticipate the wreckage that would follow. Terrible storms slammed the DC metro area and so many days later are still left in the dark. I’ve been following the national reports, twitter and even online. Our website live streamed it’s newscast Monday which I thought was great. Many people like my parents in Herndon are still without cable.

Down here at the beach I ran into a couple from Maryland.. NBC4 viewers. They don’t plan on returning til their neighborhood has power again. They said.. aren’t you glad you’re not there.. you missed all that? I can say I’m glad my family is safe but it has been tough being away from the big story where so many still need help. I just hope the recovery process is on the upswing. It’s only the start of July and already we’ve been hit big. I really hope this is not a sign of things to come.

Stay safe all.. see you Saturday morning.

Pick of the week: “Wanna score some tide?”

When people on twitter start creating hashtags from something you said in your stand-up for a news story.. well it’s gotta be good. Pat Collins doesn’t disappoint with his take on the Tide detergent thieves in Maryland.

Mom who makes Noms

Nikki's white cake with chocolate chip cookie dough filling for baby's 6 month old birthday

I love seeing women start their own businesses. I have the utmost admiration for moms, especially new ones who venture into this world. Meet my neighbor and girlfriend Nikki Hill. She just had a baby like an hour ago and also around the same time decided to start Noms by Nikki. What’s a nom you ask? According to Nik it’s an onomatopoeic adjective based on the sound emitted when something is “oh so tasty.” I can attest her noms live up to it’s definition.

Nat’l Relaxation Day: Morning Massage

Sometimes our in studio guests are more than welcomed– they are so badly needed! Say hello to Tony Jackson who stopped by the morning show today to talk about things you can do to relieve stress. He had me inhale and say “Ahhhh” on the exhale. Something so small really does help. Special thanks to Dr. Martina Washington and Ayo Handy-Kendi for joining us too. Oh and if you’re wondering why we’re doing this, today is National Relaxation Day. Check out the video from the morning show below!

New Mobile App KOJAMI Improves Social Life

Some like to call me a social butterfly but for anyone who knows me well knows working the DC scene is just that- work. Whether I’m hosting an event or covering it time and information gathering isso valuable. I am a big fan of anything that eases the process of getting somewhere and tracking down all the vitals of the event. That’s why I’m so excited about the launch of a new mobile app called KOJAMI. This app created by Keadworks helps you find any type of event just by using your phone. You can purchase tickets, rsvp, navigate, share pics and video all in one spot. I’m convinced it’s gonna change how DC does the scene.

MORE: Keadworks advice on Social Media Marketing

KOJAMI is the new app out from Keadworks. One of Keadworks’ clients Becky’s Fund has had great success trying out the app. Look for other area businesses like O’Neill Studios, Jamachi Plastic Surgery and Med Spa and personalities like DJ Neekola to be using it more.

On a personal note… I have had great success with Keadworks. They custom made my site exactly how I wanted it and are always available when I have questions or want to make changes. Feel free to call Keadworks with any web, marketing or social media marketing questions. Their free sessions come with refreshments at their new Downtown Silver Spring Office.
