Expectant moms dubbed ‘pregginistas’ by Monica Byrd- the event’s founder, were treated to giveaways including: a Britax car seat and stroller, a mommy yoga session, and consulting from area style and lifestyle coaches.

WUSA 9’s community blogger, Leigh Macdonald, served as head momma aka mistress of ceremonies for the event.

Mom Pick of the Week: Olive to Sew

This week I’m loving my monogrammed onesie from OlivetoSew.com. The founder who possesses the sassy needle skills is Kere Knapp, a mom of two who lives in South Riding. This is one of many things Adora has bearing her initials. She also has a basket, two piece outfit and a blanky!

Mom Pick of the Week: Biddy Belly

I keep hearing from moms with older children— “They are coming out with all sorts of new things since my kids were born!”  So I’m going to try to share onething every week that I find is forward thinking and has been a good fit for us. I wanna start with a great tummy time tool.

Adora is mega strong and at 3 weeks already started holding her head up. In addition to using my tummy time blankets I discovered this new cool contraption. It’s called the Biddy Belly and was created by physical therapist and mom of three Robin Tachetti. It has a gradual incline that gives Adora the right place to push her arms up.  She’s now 11 weeks so I think in a month or so she’ll be able to fully push herself up because her arms will be longer. The side bolsters are great because they keep her legs in place, avoiding the ‘roll over.’ There’s a little mirror for the baby to see themselves push up… and a bunch of little rattles and squeaky accents to keep them entertained. Robin says it helped her kids from getting those flat spots on the back of their heads… as the Biddy Belly eliminated the need of repeated attempts to turn them onto their bellies.

Nursing: Never so pretty

I didn’t realize that I had to buy MORE maternity stuff after I had Adora. Then I realized how important finding the right nursing bra really is. I got a couple from the lactation specialist at the hospital but as you can imagine they weren’t the prettiest things.

Once I got home and a little settled I knew it was time to call ‘The Bra Lady’ Cyla Weiner of SYLENE DC. I knew Cyla would 1) help me find the right size AGAIN (um, they get bigger ladies!) and 2) have something pretty. I, like many women wrongly assumed anything with ‘nursing’ attached to it could not be attractive.

After trying on different styles and sizes I decided on a gorgeous patterned piece by Cake Lingerie  and a more traditional underwired nursing bra by Anita maternity. Cyla says you’ll get a lot of mileage out of the latter.  I took these pictures with my iPhone so sorry they look a little dim. As you can see Cyla has set the ‘blueberry bra’ on me on the last hook. She says that’s important when you first buy since you want to be able to make the band smaller as time passes and you start to drop the baby weight and swelling. ps- on the way out I saw the most amazing SPANX product yet. The Reversible Tights. One side is brown … the other is black. You can also get one side black and the other grey. Who’d a thunk? Two colors in one, so worth the price.

BUMP OR DUMP: LBD… well kinda

This is as close to an LBD we’re gonna get. Ruched black, spandexy dress by Isabella Oliver accented with Stella & Dot Nolita necklace made of sparkly strands!

BUMP or DUMP: Wrap it up

It’s my new favorite way to wear things. Just wrap it like a big burrito.

Something's Growling in the Nursery

There’s something I really liked about this stuffed lion head.

I saw it in a gas station on the way to Richmond recently and decided it was a must buy. Ok, it was somewhat impulsive. Can’t explain the expression on hubby’s face when he walked out of the bathroom and saw me waiting with this huge head in hand.  I think it adds whimsey to the nursery in progress… I placed it above the door between the baby’s closets.  It makes me think of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Narnia not quite.. but I can imagine right.

Busting out and feeling beautiful

Some would say one the blessings of pregnancy is a woman’s changing cup size.

Anyone who’s been through the process knows how unpredictable and uncomfortable it can be. That’s why I turned to a local expert to find what feels good and looks good.  Cyla at Sylene in Chevy Chase has been helping women, expecting moms and breast cancer survivors with finding the best and flattering fit for years.  I’m a little more than 2 months away from having my baby. I met with Cyla who measured how much I’ve grown and we discovered my band width is bigger. After trying a variety of different brands and designs I settle on two beautiful pieces. In my opinion you really only need two good ones to get you through this time- a nude and a black bra.  Your size will change again so it’s not worth buying a ton of bras you won’t be able to wear later. Plus you’ll wanna save for later… 2-3 weeks before you deliver Cyla recommends coming in for your nursing bras. I’m scheduled to do that at the end of November. She has the most beautiful collection of nursing bras and intimates– I never knew motherhood could be so sexy!

BUMP OR DUMP: Cardi controversy

I wanted to get this bright yellow Liz Lange maternity shirt in before it’s too late… so attempted to tone it down with a dark green cardi. I’ve got mixed reviews at work on the cardigan’s length. Some say cute.. others say it should be longer.
