For the children

I was honored to emcee the Red Heart and Soul Gala for the fifth year in a row. It’s such a wonderful event benefiting Devotion to Children. This is a group that provides crucial resources to single parents in our area who are struggling to raise their children on their own. It’s really magical what they do and the lives they change. Special thanks to founder Rosemary Tran Lauer who has used her personal story to inspire the mission of DTC. Photos by Joey Smiles

Chinese New Year: Why CARE

Nina Un is on to something good. She’s the  founder of CARE To Lunch… a charity-driven lunch series that brings together businesses leaders once  month. Each luncheon helps out a non-profit in the area. We joined Nina for her first Year-of-the-Rabbit Celebration & Benefit for Food for Others. The Chinese New Year party held at China Garden in Arlington delivered an authentic 10-course Chinese dinner. Guests socialized and donated non-perishables. Even Adora brought some canned goods for the occasion.  The next CARE to Lunch is Tuesday February 22nd at Bistro Bistro at Dupont Circle. The lunch will benefit Share Our Strength. Get your hot ticket today here…

Tickled Pink in Potomac

I cannot even begin to tell you how overwhelmed with emotion I am with all the support I’ve gotten from friends, family and co-workers over the last 8 months. My sisters Jenny and Tricia threw me a beautiful shower at good friend Dr. Alex’s Potomac home.

It was more than perfect– it was as I told the crowd– a room filled with so much love. Wish I could post the hundreds of pictures and special moments captured by’s Daniel Swartz and Rita Lawrence with Bitsy Baby Photography. Please check out their galleries. Sweet thanks to Frosting: A Cupcakery for sending devilishly good dessert. No cupcake was left behind. Shout out to the gorgeous Lauren Von Der Pool and staff with green catering company Von Der Pool Gourmet.  I didn’t learn til after the party that the ‘beef wontons’ were vegan! I would’ve never known. They were delicious!

The best part of all? Seeing so many women from different phases of my life- high school, college, SC, DC, News, philanthropy and  mamas-to-be coming together to help me celebrate my first step into motherhood. Thank you everyone from me and baby “A”. Read more about the shower at where Leigh Macdonald wrote a very kind recap of the party.

Honey Pig: Friends indulge at Korean feast

We dig the pig.

After hearing rave reviews of Honey Pig (Gooldaegee) in Annadale, Virginia I said enough is enough, time to get stuffed. No Korean feast should go unshared… so I gathered with fellow kimchee and bulgogi fans. The rest is history… not grain of sticky rice left.
