Bonding over Parenting Fails

It was a night full of jokes, real stories and even a boob bump. Yep, Alicia Ybarbo and Mary Ann Zoellner delivered more than just laughs at the book signing for their latest baby “Sh*tty Mom For All Seasons“. Anj Varma at Kidville led a discussion about parenting fails and how to pitch your story to the media. It was awesome to see so many moms with kids young and old come out! People asked questioned and even shared their parenting confessions. One mom confessed she drove over her daughter’s bike on the way out to get to the event! The reaction from the room was in line with the theme of the book: We got you sister. You are not alone!

Making a Leprechaun Trap

It’s March 1st so the official countdown to one of my favorite holidays (not because it’s my birthday hee hee) is on! St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner which means we don’t have much time to catch that tricky Leprechaun. The kids had the best time making a trap. It’s so easy. All you need is a shoe box, a stick or pencil and some moss. Fill the box up and prop the top with the stick. You can bait the leprechaun with mini pots of gold, coins, skittles or me lucky charms! We know the little guys like rainbows too.. so we added one on the box. As we were making the trap Adora asked me if leprechauns have families. I told her of course they do. She then got sad and said.. well if we trap him then what about his family. I told her it’s like a fish.. we always throw it back đŸ™‚

Brilliant!

Loved this idea of a waterproof changing pad  for baby! Changing the the cloth can be tedious and this really solves that problem! Plus, I love the variety of prints and colors. Just another parenting hack I thought I’d pass along. Check it out. Here’s more information

Can you see her daughter?!

You guys know how much I’m into traditions and creating new ones! Well how excited I was to learn about  a really cool mom, Julie Mudrick from Vienna. All month she’s been dressing up in homemade costumes and surprising everyone when she picks them up from the bus stop! The whole crew on wheels gets a kick out of it.  It’s something she started 3 years ago when her son expressed was worried about what others thought of him. Her response was to dress up and show him that it’s ok to stand out, be goofy, fun and above all imperfect.  This year her oldest daughter who is in middle school decided to join in on the fun! You can find more of her costumes on facebook and instagram using #BusStopCostumes.

I have no clue what Julie will show up as tomorrow… but I know one thing for sure: Regardless of the wig, cape or makeup she throws on.. this mom is downright SUPER!

Kid Time: Quality over Quantity

You could imagine my sigh of relief when a new study came out that said quality trumps quantity when it comes to spending time with your children. My reality is that I’m at work more than I’m at home. When I’m with my kids I do my best to embrace the moment and make it one that is all about us. These ‘moments’ are sometimes just minutes but I know it’s really important to my son and daughter. Check out the story TODAY did on the study.

“Go the F*** to Sleep” author comes to DC

He’s finally making it to DC. Adam Mansbach brings his hilarious (and very real) take on the not-so-perfect moments of parenthood to the Nation’s Capital.
Mansbach will do a public book signing of his #1 New York Times Best Seller “Go the F*** to Sleep.”

It’s going down next Wednesday July 27 at PJ Clarke’s. It’s from 6-8pm. Event location is 1600 K Street, NW DC. Based off the cover and my childhood I thing a funny tagline would be: Love, Tiger Mom
