Ugly Truth of Having a Baby

Hi from New York! I’m up here all week guest hosting Early TODAY and First Look on MSNBC. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shared my post on What I Wish I had Known Before Bringing Home Baby. It was the  TODAY Show’s Parenting Team question of the month. On Thursday tune in to the TODAY Show during the 8AM hour. I’ll be joining some other moms to talk about all the weird things that happen when you’re expecting! Should be a fun and informative conversation. See you on TODAY!

ARMY Mom Strong

Anyone who’s had a baby knows just how tough it can be to get back in shape. Imagine having to have to take a physical fitness test and meet a weight requirement 6 months after delivery! It’s the reality for the brave women in our military. The good news.. there’s a unique program that is helping pregnant soldiers stay fit physically and emotionally. Tune in for my story from Fort Meade Maryland this evening. It airs on News4 at 4 after Ellen!

Military Mamas Get Spoiled!

Operation Homefront teamed up with the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) to  throw the ultimate baby shower for military moms-to-be! Celebrating “Star Spangled Babies” the event honored and spoiled 50 area military moms.It was an honor to emcee again. The best part? When we surprised all the women with a brand new trendy Nuna Pepp stroller! Photos by Max Krupka

Let the baby weight battle begin

Considering the fact I was asked several times during pregnancy “Twins?” (and once triplets?) it goes without saying I enjoyed the “eating what I want” part of it all. I did have some pretty bad swelling which didn’t help. When I stepped on the scale before delivering the number put me at + 75 lbs. It’s been three weeks since that day and I’m starting to feel okay enough to exercise a little. I’ve also broken a personal record: 3 weeks without enjoying one of my favorite filet-o-fish. Because I’m breastfeeding I can’t really diet but what I have done is cut out the fast food and sugar intake. I’m trying not to freak out that I still have 50 pounds to go. They say it takes longer with the second baby. I think part of it is your SO tired from caring for the first. Feel free to share what worked for you!

Delivery day

3 weeks later and all that was worth it

Adora keeps me motivated

First few days

It’s been a rather eventful first few days with our new son. As expected the chunker lost a little weight.  His sister is still getting use to him.  Although I’m not a new mom I am still so amazed at how little he is. The ears, the hands.. .that hair! For those asking if Adora’s Day is getting a new page for her little bro… no. He actually has his own site Bobthe4th.com

Bob meets world

Well he just couldn’t wait! Bob the IV arrived a week early on May 31st 2013 and at a nice hearty 9 LBS. He was 21 1/4″ long with a big head of hair… with frosted blonde tips. Have no clue where that came from!  Everyone is doing great. After initial shock big sis Adora warmed up… and even offered Bob her favorite bear!

Awesome Dr. Lightfoote!

Innocent jealousy at first

She warmed up!

Bob’s 4D Sonogram

I never got a good 4D sonogram of Adora because she was breech. I decided to try again with Bob and at 30 weeks we got some pretty decent shots. I think the best part was watching him yawn a few times during the session. It was so cute. It appears he’s really into sucking his hands and toes already. He also often grabbed for the umbilical chord. Oh.. and he’s definitely a boy … but I’ll spare you those pictures!

Eyes blink!

Having a baby… what they DON’T tell you

Anyone who’s had a baby probably has their own list of what people DON’T tell you to expect. My top 10 things are out in the latest edition of I AM Modern Magazine. Trust me, I know the list does go on. Get your copy today or check out the electronic version! Also check out the awesome article on our friend and fashion entrepreneur Jewell Green.

Nursing: Never so pretty

I didn’t realize that I had to buy MORE maternity stuff after I had Adora. Then I realized how important finding the right nursing bra really is. I got a couple from the lactation specialist at the hospital but as you can imagine they weren’t the prettiest things.

Once I got home and a little settled I knew it was time to call ‘The Bra Lady’ Cyla Weiner of SYLENE DC. I knew Cyla would 1) help me find the right size AGAIN (um, they get bigger ladies!) and 2) have something pretty. I, like many women wrongly assumed anything with ‘nursing’ attached to it could not be attractive.

After trying on different styles and sizes I decided on a gorgeous patterned piece by Cake Lingerie  and a more traditional underwired nursing bra by Anita maternity. Cyla says you’ll get a lot of mileage out of the latter.  I took these pictures with my iPhone so sorry they look a little dim. As you can see Cyla has set the ‘blueberry bra’ on me on the last hook. She says that’s important when you first buy since you want to be able to make the band smaller as time passes and you start to drop the baby weight and swelling. ps- on the way out I saw the most amazing SPANX product yet. The Reversible Tights. One side is brown … the other is black. You can also get one side black and the other grey. Who’d a thunk? Two colors in one, so worth the price.
