Pick of the week: “Wanna score some tide?”

When people on twitter start creating hashtags from something you said in your stand-up for a news story.. well it’s gotta be good. Pat Collins doesn’t disappoint with his take on the Tide detergent thieves in Maryland.

Washington Journalism & Media Conference 2011

Some of the best stuff I get to do is return to my alma mater the great George Mason University to work with students interested in media. I recently sat on a panel with fellow Patriots who have gone on to have successful careers in journalism- all kinds. As part of the Washington Journalism & Media Conference that draws hundreds of high schoolers from across the Country, we got the chance to share stories about breaking into the business.

Dishing out the dirt on what it took to get where they’re at were film critic Kevin ‘BDK’ McCarthy from 106.7 The Fan, BJ Koubaroulis the CEO of Synthesis Multimedia Production and Lynn Norusis, managing editor of Northern Virginia Magazine. Best of luck to all the great students we met… there’s many with a bright future ahead of them!

Big break up

Somewhere out there my hairstylist is shouting from a mountain top. I finally did it. After decades of being a loyal Herbal Essence devotee I have kicked the bottle to the curb. I knew it would take something good, really good to make me switch shampoo. I loved Herbal Essence… ever since it came in this bottle on the right.

MORE: PR at Partners WELLA Show

Then I stumbled on these. It’s WELLA’s Enrich line of hair care. The first time I used it… I had a couple co-workers say “You’re hair looks really good today.”  It took me by surprise. Then I decided to try it again.. and started to like the bounce but control my normally heavy coarse hair had.  The shampoo is  $13 and the conditioner $14 so yes pricier than your average supermarket brand.  There are a few different types of the Enrich line.. for coarse hair, for fine hair, normal hair and more. Ah, breaking up is hard to do… but after a good blow dry trust me you’ll be so over it. WELLA’s Enrich line is available at PR at Partners salons.

SaraBeth’s, Magnolia.. must stop eating

What a Sunday in NYC. We started with navigating our way through the annual Puerto Rican Parade. We finally found entrance to the famous Sarabeth’s in Central Park where we wanted to brunch. Sarabeth’s can be argued the best brunch in the city and we were not disappointed. A must order– a basket of her signature muffins and preserves. As if that wasn’t enough.. we decided to eat cupcakes at Rockefeller Center. Where from? Magnolia of course. Later that evening I stopped by CBS studios on W. 57th to visit Russ Mitchell before he did the evening news. All in all a great day in the city.

Wedding dress shopping

We were SO excited to go with our bride-to-be Heather Brown wedding gown shopping!  She found one she really liked and we did too. Picture? Of course we’re not gonna show you. All I can say is that she looked beautiful. While at the boutique some really pretty sashes caught our eyes. I also found a great look for any future M.O.B. Following some gown gazing… a revisit to our good ole’ days together down South. The BBQ Fest was going on at Madison Square Park.. and despite the rain the scene wasn’t anything less than porkfection.

Pink Painted bikini and big hearts Race for the Cure

The sun was shining and the pink was popping at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in DC. There were so many inspirational stories. While hosting the pre-show I met awesome people like a guy who painted a pink bikini on him in name of his grandmother who has breast cancer. Andrea Roane shined as the Mistress of Ceremonies and the WUSA9 booth in Komen Village created a mob fest! So much fun! Thank you to all who came out!
