Halloween with the Cupcake Sisters

The Cupcakes:

We spent the afternoon decorating cupcakes with perhaps the popular dessert’s most famous faces.. Georgetown Cupcake sisters Sophie and Katherine. The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown hosted the family event in the new Fahrenheit Ballroom. The workshop was so easy that even a baby could do it. Okay.. she ate more frosting then frosted anything but she still had a blast. For info on future workshops visit the Ritz-Carlton’s website.  Save the Date- one of the sisters gets hitched! Tune in for the DC Cupcakes Wedding Special Friday November 11th on TLC.

Story behind Adora’s Costume:
Adora was dressed up as Kim Yuna. Who? You know Kim Yuna… the South Korean ice skater who won the Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics. Commentators have said she may be the best figure skater every to skate the sport.Well… Adora being a quarter Korean and my husband being a Kim Yu Na fan I thought it would be a fun surprise. Her outfit was complete with skates, bouquet and the hardware.

One *BIG* Birthday

You don’t get invites like this that often. It was perfect weather for a pachyderm birthday party. The Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town and it was Sara was turning another year older. As part of the big surprise the Georgetown Cupcake gals Sophie & Katherine showed up with a special pachyderm safe cupcake for Sara and all her fellow elephant friends. Even with the cake in their face the elephants opted for the carrots and lettuce. What I would give for an appetite like that! Adora got a kick out of it despite the look on her face. I’ll have more on the party including a bunch of kiddos who got to decorate their own cupcake to eat as part of the circus celebration. The circus is at The Patriot Center through April 24th.

TLC threw a small affair at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown to celebrate and screen the latest reality show to come out of the Washington: DC Cupcakes.  Based of the small cupcake business that has made monumental booms in just two years the series is part of the network’s summer lineup. In addition to indulging in the sweet treats which were everywhere you turned… we got a sneak peak at the show’s first episode set to air this Friday at 10PM.  Look for some sisterly tension in the series opener along with some cute ‘mommy’ humor and one particular character Andres who steals the show and has some pretty awesome hair.

Terence’s Top 3 Tips to Getting Your Biz on TV:

Tip #1: In three sentences or less, write out who you are and what you have to offer that is unique from what is already out there.

Tip #2:  Spend one week watching local and national TV– like from WUSA9 to The Today Show to Ellen. Educate yourself . Make a youtube video of yourself showing your expertise in action- let the power of the internet work for you. Insider Secret: Dr. Oz staff scours the internet when looking for potential guests for The Dr. Oz Show.

Tip #3: Write up 3 pitches. Make sure they have a hook and think visual.  It’s all about the tease.. so fill in the blank when thinking of your pitch: “When we come back ___________”

BONUS:  Come up with 3 stories form your life that you can use for interviews. Being a ‘relatable’ guest will make you more appealing to producers and the people booking the shows.
