Face Time

When it come to putting my makeup on I often say “It’s time for me to go paint my face.” Between the lotion, the primer, the matte cream, the liquid foundation, the powder, the highlighter, the bronzer and of course the blush I end up feeling like a work of something. Everyday I pile that stuff on for work knowing it’s the last thing my poor pores need.

I wish I could say I take care of my skin. I exfoliate, I get facials but in reality I don’t. In fact, I’d much rather get a massage over a little face time when it’s between the two.

But recently I decided it was time to apologize to face and reward it with a little revival. I headed to new posh new spa Nectar Skin Bar in Georgetown.

That’s where brow and face guru Adrian Avila gave me an intraceuticals oxygen infusion facial. A what? It sounds fancy but it’s real simple. He re-hydrated my skin by using topical oxygen. It’s also infused with vitamins, anti-oxidants and hyaluronic acid to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin.

Don’t even ask me what all that is.. just know the results were glowing and I felt great!

Next visit: I’m planning to meet up with Kaitlin who I hear gives the best organic chocolate spray tan.  Yep sugar that safely sun kisses you..  you can even top it off with some caramel bronzer. Who could resist!

Spa World: Our visit to the Korean Bath House

One of the most amazing places in the area exists in Centreville Virginia. It’s called ‘Spa World’ and it’s not your average day at the spa. In fact, it’s a full blown Korean sauna known in my mom’s native land as a Jjimjilbang. I ventured there with my little sister Jenny, Colleen who is a high school pal I went to school with in Seoul and Spa World junkie Dannia Hakki. It was a stroll down memory lane (on heated floors) taking me back to my childhood in Korea.  Here’s the deal it’s basically a spa filled with a variety of saunas or poultice rooms: Amethyst Gem Room, Red Clay Room, Ice Room, Oak Wood Charcoal Room,  Red Clay Ball Room (my favorite, you lay in little balls), Blue Onyx Room and the  Salt Room (made of complete salt..ceiling and all).

There are classic spa services too. Manis, Pedis, massages.. but be warned they are the pressure point kind. Jenny and I got foot massages and let me just say I never knew my feet had so many nerves. Intense.

The public bath area (separated by gender) is where I have yet to venture into. Equipped with 5 different types of pools with high powered jets the bottomline you get in with bottom and all. I still can’t bring myself to jump in the bath in the buff.  No thanks. I’d rather be eating at the spa’s restaurant. Afterall, the prison inspired suits they gives us come with an elastic waist. It would be such a waste not to get the most out of it.  See pictures below along with this instructional video provided by yours truly.

How to make the classic Jjimjilbang Lamb Towel

The clay up close- it’s like the  Chuck E. Cheese ball pen for adults

The golden key- ok it’s orange but it’s your ticket to everything.  At the end of your stay (which could be overnight since it’s open 24 hours) they scan your key for your total. Food, services everything is charged to the key. General day pass is $35.

From the Korean restaurant there- a classic MILKIS!

Hi from Swizterland!

Angie in the Showroom

When it comes to getting away and relaxin’ and totally maxin your leisure time…Switzerland got it down.  Recently I had a chance to step into their world of bliss with my recent visit to Alchimie. Many would be surprised to discover they need not venture abroad for the ultimate Swiss experience.. this beauty showroom is nestled right in the heart of Georgetown.

I popped in for the Alchimie Forever Le Classique. It’s an amazing deep cleansing facial that leaves your skin clearer, healthier, more balanced. This is terribly important for me because I wear so much make-up for work. They have this Excimer gel cleanser maAlchimie Forever, Georgetownde with papaya, grapefruit and good I wanna eat it. The scrub has cranberry and jojoba beads to exfoliate and extract- my favorite part. I found it tighten the pores. The 1 hour treatment is complimentary with a purchase of $115. They have products for all the right places– incuding a bust gel!

I invested in the eye cream considering I never sleep and I have grown to value my skin as I continue to get OLD!

Now if Alchimie Scrubwe could only get Elin here! That girl deserves more than a little TLC from home.

Alchimie Foreveris located at 1010 Wisconsin Ave, NW DC. Suite 210. If you wanna know more about Alchimie Forever don’t hold back. Call my buddy Rachel or email her at
