Big Toast in Town: Moet Winemaker Tour

Major toasting was going on in the city at the 2012 Moet Hennessy Winemaker Tour. Hosted at The Occidental… notable mixologists and sommeliers attended the event along with some familiar faces from the media and philanthropy front. We saw Katherine Kennedy, Cynne Simpson, Jummy Olabanji and Tommy Mcfly. Up for tasting… fine spirits from New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay Te Koko, France’s Chateau de Sancerre’s Cuvee du Connetable, Napa Valley’s Chandon Etoile Brut and Spain’s Numanthia Termanthia. Cauc-tails at Elisir

Washington media mixed it up at the new Itailian restaurant and bar Elisir right on 11th Street in the Penn Quarter. In the spirit of 2012 and a photo finish in Iowa we had fun with our own straw poll.. choosing the best cocktails all of which were paired with a candidate. Much like the recent caucuses the top dog status went to Romney– or the cocktail named “The bain of My Existence.” No Santorum in second place here… that award went to Ron Paul’s “IchBin Anyn non-inerventionist.” Familiar faces included Nikki Schwab, Kate Michael, Tommy McFly, Judy Kurtz and food writer Jordan Wright. Special thanks to kind hosts Chef Enzo Fargione and Janet Donovan. The food was delicious too and authentic! Photo credit: Neshan Naltchayan and KStreetKate.

NBC Washington Holiday Party

The mighty Peacock shined bright on Bethesda Row as the NBC Washington family celebrated the holidays. There was plenty of good eats and even better dancing. Seemed like almost everyone found some time to pop by including some of Washington’s most recognizable faces… Jim Vance, Doreen Gentzler and Chuck Todd. This year’s party was held once again at Redwood Restaurant.

Herndon Band Surprises Shoppers

Go Hornets! As a proud graduate of Herndon High School I loved seeing 94.7 FRESH FM’s Tommy McFly and the TOMMY SHOW team up with THE PRIDE OF HERNDON MARCHING BAND to surprise shoppers, ice skaters, and holiday bystanders at Reston Town Center for a Random Act of Christmas.

Over 100 Christmas presents were given to the crowd during this pop-up concert. Check out the video to see the crowd’s reaction, received as a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. Watch the video here

Media Family Style

Some of my greatest friends are in DC media. It was awesome to get together with a few of them to celebrate my new job. We may work at different outlets but we all love food and lots of it. We gathered at Carmine’s for a family style lunch that included a dessert bigger than Rebecca Cooper’s 3 kids (see photo). It was great to have some of my new co-workers John Schriffen and Rick Yarborough join us too!  More photos by our dear friend Daniel Swartz at Revamp.com

Shave for the Brave Approaching

On Wednesday September 21st where will you be? Can I convince you to join me and 46 brave moms at Union Station. These women will shave their heads in honor of their beautiful children battling cancer. It’s the 2nd Annual 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave and we want all the support we can get!

Celebrity shavers will be on hand to help the mommas out. They include media pals Arch Campbell, Alison Starling, Andrea Roane, Ed Henry, Tommy McFly, Natasha Barrett , Mary Amons and Flounder to name a few! Please come out and help cheer these wonderful women on. PR at Partners from Chevy Chase is bringing their talented team and photographer Tim Coburn will be doing before and after shots.

Why 46? That’s how many mothers are told each day that “your child has cancer.” The goal this year is to raise $1 Million dollars for St. Baldrick’s. We hope to see you at Union Station Sept. 21st!

Irene… I’m ready

Someone is leg’d and ready for Irene!

Irene messing up your weekend? We know that the rain or shine rule regarding the MLK Jr. Memorial Dedication is now out the door. The ceremony has been postponed indefinitely. In Maryland, Ocean City is under evacuation orders. Irene could hit the resort Saturday. In Virginia, the place I was headed for a little vaca called to say they’ll be closed this weekend.

MORE: Track the storm’s path

Tourists and travelers are being impacted all over. My husband’s flight from SC was cancelled Thursday, the airline saying because of the storm.  On the way home I saw a guy in the elevator carrying a bulk supply of water and adult beverages. As he struggled to hold it all up against the wall he exclaimed “I’m ready!”

On facebook,  my radio pal Tommy McFly who lives in DC posted this saying “Hurricane mania! Lines halfway down the aisles at the Social Safeway. Too much? I just wanted hummus.”

Then there is food writer Jordan Wright who has perhaps the most beautiful preparations I have ever heard of. She writes “Irene Storm Prep 101 – Jar of hibiscus flowers, anchovy stuffed olives, pickled ramps and fiddlehead ferns, bottle of Alaskan birch syrup and ten cans of coconut water – Rigaud candles and a fine Pomerol.”
