Bus Stop Costumes

Can you see her daughter?!

You guys know how much I’m into traditions and creating new ones! Well how excited I was to learn about  a really cool mom, Julie Mudrick from Vienna. All month she’s been dressing up in homemade costumes and surprising everyone when she picks them up from the bus stop! The whole crew on wheels gets a kick out of it.  It’s something she started 3 years ago when her son expressed was worried about what others thought of him. Her response was to dress up and show him that it’s ok to stand out, be goofy, fun and above all imperfect.  This year her oldest daughter who is in middle school decided to join in on the fun! You can find more of her costumes on facebook and instagram using #BusStopCostumes.

I have no clue what Julie will show up as tomorrow… but I know one thing for sure: Regardless of the wig, cape or makeup she throws on.. this mom is downright SUPER!

Wonderland in Vienna

If you follow the news you know I work the night shift during the week. That means I only have a few hours to spend with my daughter before I head in. One of my mommy rules is “try to get out” as much as I can. I love it when I find places that are close, easy to get to, cheap and enjoyable.

I love fresh flowers and man was I impressed when I decided to check out Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna Virginia. It was so much more than just pretty paths and arrangements. In fact, we spent about an hour there and didn’t even cover most of the grounds. What captivated my imagination and that of my daughter’s was the cute little kids tea party garden. It was inspired by the tales of Alice in Wonderland… and a wonder it was. Seeing the rainbow itself was worth the $5 admission.

Bat Cave!

There’s a sand pit with tools!

Floss

Um ok I’m lying. I hate to floss.. and I’m married to a dentist so imagine how those night time conversations go. However, I love finding new ways to motivate me to do things that are good for me. I am thrilled to see friend and local cosmetic dentist Dr. Alex Naini join Dr. Oz’s panel of experts. Her first piece answers the question “Do I really need to floss?”  What I love about her advice is that it is the real deal. Like when she shares most people think they brush twice daily, their teeth are clean and they have fresh breath. Dr. Alex says “People usually don’t realize that their breath stinks and a lot of times their loved ones are too nice to tell them the truth.”

As you grab for that tic-tac.. chew on this: In her article Dr. Alex says if you’re going to pick between brushing and flossing, FLOSS! She repeats, FLOSS! Curious? Read more at Dr. Oz…
