Seersucker Social

Ohhh this gets my South Carolina girl in me going! What’s summer without seersucker?

This Saturday, June 4th at 1pm Dandies and Quaintrelles is hosting a vintage, seersucker attire bike ride followed by a lawn party. Bikers will meet at a secret location (which will be revealed via e-mail) and later attend the lawn party at Hillwood Museums and Gardens.

Big Find: VA Pop-Up Boutique

It’s like Etsy in real time. That’s the best way to describe Hillary Tattersall’s Virginia home and it’s basement.  The founder of Chicks Picks has commissioned local women to make fashion and home accessories for the last 6 years and I got the regal treatment when doing a story on her Royal Wedding line. As a lover of everything vintage it was such overload. (Note to self: don’t bring credit card on shopping assignment!)

Check out the pictures below. I ended up getting a handmade Victiorianesque mirror and bows for Adora , earrings for me and the coolest sunglasses case I’ve ever seen. My prize find– this Chanel ring made by a local woman with old buttons! Oh did I mention… this won’t break the bank.

I told Hillary in our interview this is like a secret society of shoppers— given that the hundreds of ladies that attend her seasonal weekend events are invited by girls in the know. The best part is that everything she sells and more is available on her site

Announcing "Adora Kate"

We wanted to share our official birth announcement for baby Adora Kate. It was so hard choosing one picture but we decided this shot captured her sweetness and innocence. I worked with photographer Katharine Hauschka to achieve a soft, vintage look. We decided to use this antique chair with angel upholstery fabric. I actually bought the cream pettiskirt before I even knew I was having a girl! Everything from the pictures to the cards and envelopes were done by

Oh Christmas Tree

One of my favorite things in the world is decorating the tree. It was a difficult task this year as I recover from surgery so I got a little help. Denise Nguyen owns Great Falls Florist. She along with the wonderful Tamara helped beautifully decorate my tree. It came out more beautiful than I imagined! It’s a throw back to a vintage Christmas. Older ornaments, lots of paper, blown glass, real glass and of course some glitter. Apparently it created a spark in the air.. see pic below of parents, Ren and Chin. I don’t see mistletoe anywhere, do you?

Tree Time: Decorations picked!

I’m obsessed with Christmas. My favorite music is Christmas music (I’m listening to Josh Groban’s NOEL CD right now!).  With my new condo, new baby on the way and new outlook on life I’m so excited to decorate our family’s real ‘first tree’. I’m going to get a real fir– pickin’ it out this week. Meanwhile, I’ve already started working on my vision. Lotsa silver and gold.. vintage ornaments… old glass… and old paper. What’s your theme this year?

Need Knobs!

When deciding on a ‘changing table’ I went with one that can be used as a dresser after the baby gets older.

I love the white finish but not so much the knobs. I’m on a hunt… and considering a few from anthropologie, Home Depot and ones I found online. I ordered the antique brass lion pulls and gonna test them out.

SCORE! Purse Pass-Me-Downs

Old Bordeaux Bag

Some daughters revel in receiving heirloom jewelry from mom. I wait for Chin to pass on her purse.  This week she gave me two extraordinary pieces. A vintage Chanel that needs to be taken to the shoe shop for repair… and an amazing 100% eel skin shoulder bag.

How about you? What do you wait for and cherish?

Oh Snap! 'Young Victoria' Screening

A select group of Washingtonians got a sneak peak of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York’s new film “The Young Victoria“. The movie event began with a VIP reception at Degrees Bar in the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown. That’s where makeup artists from Red Door gave complimentary touch ups for the ladies… and specialty cocktails and Georgetown Cupcakes were on the menu.

OMG reader Kirstin Holmes, an event planner from Alexandria was just smashing in her faux fur and vintage dress from a NYC boutique! She offered this review:

“The Young Victoria was a well put together film, full of romance and rebellion.  Emily Blunt portrayed young Victoria with attitude and charm.  The film was proper and yet really captured the real personalities of everyone in it that might not have been.  Angie, I soo agree with you on wanting to live in this time period.  Everything is so elegant!”

“The Young Victoria” opens in limited theaters Friday.
