‘Jumpstart’ education for children in need

To help children from low-income families that are at greater risk of school failure, Ladies DC is partnering with D.A.R. for Jumpstart For a Day (JFAD). JFAD is a preschool enrichment program aiding low-income children.  Volunteer for 2 hours in classrooms to work with students in honing their learning and developmental skills on Friday, August 19th 9 AM – 11:30 AM at Rosemount Center (2000 Rosemount Ave. NW)

This Wednesday August 17th, boogie down with Baby Loves Disco at Rock and Roll Hotel on H Street for a superhero themed disco party for toddlers and youngsters packed with dancing, crafts and even drinks for mom and dads.

Mommas ‘Shave for the Brave’


Danielle Leach of Arlington lost her son Mason in 2007.

That’s how many mothers are told each day that “your child has cancer.”

It’s why 46 moms are shaving their heads come September 21st at Union Station. 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave next month to honor their children and raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. The moms have lost a child to cancer or their child is currently undergoing treatment. I’m honored to emcee this event and hope that you will join us to cheer these moms on…many are local.

“Go the ___ to Sleep” Cracks Up DC Parents

Adam Mansbach, author of the hilarious lullaby parody ‘Go the F*** to Sleep’ stopped by DC’s P.J. Clarke’s for a reading and signing. Adam had the audience laughing to tears as he shared his journey as a writer and parent.

Guests had the chance to ask questions, one of whom asked whether Mansbach preferred  Samuel Jackson’s reading or Werner Herzog’s reading. Mansbach revealed that although both are fantastic and very funny, he likes Samuel Jackson’s reading slightly better.

After the reading and interview, Adam stuck around to sign books for his fans. More to come on the WUSA9 Morning Show this week. Yoni Lee contributed to this report.

Local charity calling on public for new name

Arlington Learning In Retirement Institute (ALRI) is looking for a new name- and you could be the person to name it!

ALRI is a DC nonprofit organization that’s been educating ‘the over 50 crowd’, offering 30 courses for those eager to learn. Now, with nearly 10 years under their belt, ALRI  is rebranding and on the market for a new name- something that is a strong representation of who they are and showcases their features.


From now until July 15 mid-night, Sisarina is hosting a naming contest with tons of great prizes for the top 3 names. The Grand Prize includes a full-color Nook and wining and dining for 4 at Willow restaurant in Arlington.

42nd NAMC Gala is All That Jazz
