The Washington Humane Society is behind the DC Walk for the Animals & Pet-A-Palooza. 100% of the proceeds stay in the DC area to help fund Washington Humane Society programs and services such as: local adoption programs, spay/neuter, Humane Law Enforcement, Humane Education, and behavior and training classes.

Pink Painted bikini and big hearts Race for the Cure

The sun was shining and the pink was popping at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in DC. There were so many inspirational stories. While hosting the pre-show I met awesome people like a guy who painted a pink bikini on him in name of his grandmother who has breast cancer. Andrea Roane shined as the Mistress of Ceremonies and the WUSA9 booth in Komen Village created a mob fest! So much fun! Thank you to all who came out!

Crunch time for Fashion for Paws Models

Start your countdown! We are just 3 weeks away from DC’s elite fashion event of the year: The Washington Humane Society’s annual Fashion for Paws show.

Fundraising models like April Jones Firoozabadi have to raise $3,000 to walk their dog down the catwalk during the event. April held a charity event at Salon Daniel in McLean and raised more than 2-thousand dollars, the most money made ever in the show’s history by a single model at one event! Last year the show raised nearly $350,000 for animals in need.

Fashion for Paws will be at the National Building Museum on April 9th and expected to attend are DC’s A-List media personalities,  athletes, politicians and business leaders.

Vineyard Vines hosts pet photo shoot with Santa!

Fashionistas and their pooches visited Santa Clause at Georgetown’s Vineyard Vines for a Fashion for Paws shopping benefit! Human guests received 10% off VV merchandise and were treated holiday cookies and cupcakes. But don’t forget about man’s best friend…dogs were invited too for a pet photo shoot with Santa. Pet photo purchases and 10% of Vineyard Vine revenues from the event were donated to the Washington Humane Society. The new F4P 2011 Super Model Calendars were also available for purchase. Despite the snowy weather, dogs and owners ventured out for a night of shopping  for animals, and took away a photo to remember the night!

Man's best buddy 'walks for animals'

DC’s doggies were excited to leash-up and take a walk for their fellow animals in need. On September 25th, dog owners animal lovers brought their pooches to the Marie Reed Learning Center for the ‘Walk for Animals’ event to support the Washington Humane Society.

Events of the day included Doga Yoga, Most Stylish Awards including best dressed and best hair, an Owner Look-A-Like Contest, a Capitol Hill Police K9 demonstration, and of course the 1 mile ‘Walk for Animals’ which began at noon. There were over 20 vendors on site, and special guest and celebrity dog expert, Tamar Gellar, answered questions and gave advice to owners.

Rescue animals were available for adoption, and 50% of the net proceeds will stay in the DC area to fund Washington Humane Society programs that benefit homeless pets.

Alongside the salon services, customers bought raffle tickets, participated in a silent auction, and over cupcakes and cocktails. Salon manager Shannon Cusello said “It’s a little hectic, but hectic is good; it means there are more people coming to help out.”

With such great feedback and support, Fashion for Paws is already planning upcoming events to benefit the WHS. “Our goal is to raise $12,000 for the Washington Humane Society,” explained Fashion for Paws Executive Director Tara de Nicolas.  Can’t donate.. maybe you can adopt 😉
