Gold Cup with Sisters

The weather was more than perfect.. and my company couldn’t get any better at Gold Cup. My two sisters Jenny and Tricia joined me in The Plains for the day. I enjoyed judging the hat contest and tailgates. From derby pie to mint julep jello shots… it was quite the tasty task. We watched a couple races and then headed to downtown Middleburg to get a bite at The French Hound.

The Critics’ Choice winner was announced late evening- Ronald Flores of Art and Soul with William Christenberry sculpture inspired ‘Coleman’s Juice’. The Gentleman Jack Tennessee whiskey based drink was garnished with a homemade Slim Jim and had a smokey flavor. Corcoran Art Gallery by trade was transformed into an upscale party by night with Washingtonians in their best cocktail dresses sampling each martini.

DC Bartender Wins Nat'l Model Search (ps- he's single!)

Take one look at his picture… and do you even ask why?

Congrats to DC’s Yonas Kutlu who won the Macveneers Model search for 2010 this fall.  He used to complain of little teeth and didn’t smile with his mouth open.  When he walked into Aesthetic Dental Spa, he didn’t even know that there was something Dr. Alex could do for him.  Two visits later, he had a smile makeover with 10 Veneers.Depending on Macveneers’ ad campaign this year, you may see him in Vogue and In Style Magazines!

PICTURES: Yonas’ teeth before smile makeover

BUT you’ve probably seen him around town already. Yonas (who’s single!) is currently a bartender at The Park at 14th and has even been on the cover of  On Tap magazine as best bartender.

Blonde's Big Win, Break 5 Year Losing Streak

Click to see BVB TV shout out on WUSA9

I admit it.  It took a couple days to accept it.

The BLONDES win big… the BRUNETTES gave it their best. Fellow Bru Carissa Maguire was not bitter after the heartbreaking loss saying it was a ‘great game in overtime.’ In the end the Blondes prevailed beating Team Brunette in O-T 26-20.  The MVP goes to…. all of the wonderful ladies regardless if they sport the pink or blue. Together they raised more than $100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.  It’s the kind of touchdowns… that touch lives.  Way to go Blondes vs Brunettes 2010.

Peep Show featuring Salahis, DC Snowstorm

My buddy Jennifer Lee at the Washington Post reminds us of the paper’s annual Peep Show Contest. This year the entries were out of this world– in fact there’s some real mushy magic in an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ entry. The big winner was the Pixar inspired ‘EEP!’ modeled after the movie UP. A peaceful, non-heat packin’ “Peepocalypse 2010” was also impressive… along with the White House ‘Party Peepers’ featuring marshmellow Salahis stuck beside President Barak Obunnypeep.
