Be the next “Miss Singergy”

The annual Miss Sinergy Competition is coming up and it’s not too late to enter.

APPLY: for a Miss Sinergy application

Previous Miss Sinergy’s reign have worked with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Becky’s Fund, USO and more. This year Miss Sinergy group has partnered with the Libby Ross Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to breast cancer survivors. 

Applicants must be between the ages of 18-28, and must provide height, weight and photo of themself. For more information or to apply, go to misssinergy.com. Deadline for application is August 27th and applications are reviewed until August 31st.

This year’s contest will be October 22nd at the French Embassy.

‘Jumpstart’ education for children in need

To help children from low-income families that are at greater risk of school failure, Ladies DC is partnering with D.A.R. for Jumpstart For a Day (JFAD). JFAD is a preschool enrichment program aiding low-income children.  Volunteer for 2 hours in classrooms to work with students in honing their learning and developmental skills on Friday, August 19th 9 AM – 11:30 AM at Rosemount Center (2000 Rosemount Ave. NW)

Babies… rejoice! Baby Loves Disco’s Superhero Tour is finally making its way to DC.

This Wednesday August 17th, boogie down with Baby Loves Disco at Rock and Roll Hotel on H Street for a superhero themed disco party for toddlers and youngsters packed with dancing, crafts and even drinks for mom and dads.

But the day has an even bigger picture, big enough for a superhero. Baby Loves Disco is holding a diaper and donation drive. Yoni Lee contributed to this report


 

Nat’l Relaxation Day: Morning Massage

Sometimes our in studio guests are more than welcomed– they are so badly needed! Say hello to Tony Jackson who stopped by the morning show today to talk about things you can do to relieve stress. He had me inhale and say “Ahhhh” on the exhale. Something so small really does help. Special thanks to Dr. Martina Washington and Ayo Handy-Kendi for joining us too. 600 Backpacks up for grabs Sunday

From our viewers in West Virginia… they’re already thinking back to school, and giving back.

This Sunday, August 14th Hedgesville Church will give away 600 backpacks filled with school supplies.
All you have to do is bring your child by.. they must be with a parent. Live music, free food, free haircuts for the kids and moon bounce will be on hand. Four new bikes will be given out too.

Registration starts at 3pm at Hedgesville Church.
That’s at 6867 Hedgesville Road in West Virginia.

“Untitled” Not your average art show

Move aside Picasso… there is some new talent in town. Art lovers turned out for new exhibit titled ‘Untitled’. Untitled runs through August 13th at the Industry Gallery in DC.

Untitled was curated and organized by University of Virginia graduates Michael Maziels and Brittany Strupp.

The exhibit will pair eight emerging artist with Up-and-coming scholars. Works featured hail from UVA, The Maryland Institute College of Arts, and UNC. The next stop for the exhibit will be the University of Virginia’s Ruffin Gallery.
