October is breast cancer awareness month and one of the biggest events happening is this Thursday: The Gift of Life Breakfast.

It’s the annual signature event of the Capital Breast Care Center. This amazing place is the only community based center that gives free breast  screenings and other services to women who cannot afford it– for free.  DC’s First Lady Michelle Fenty is the President of CBCC and so passionate about this issue. She supported us at our Newsbabes event in May and continues to push the fight in funding for this disease. Other rocks behind the cause… British Ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald and his lovely wife who opened their Washington home for a reception to kick-off excitement for the breakfast. At the party, Mayor Adrian Fenty read a proclamation declaring October as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ in DC. Speaking at the Gift of Life Breakfast this Thursday… some of Washington’s most prominent women including Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton and Councilwoman Mary Cheh.
